Yesterday’s sudden PSN maintenance brought down the Store for a good few hours without any warning, although the actual network (signing in to the PSN and playing online at least) seemed to continue just fine.
Sony have said that it’s now fully restored, though, so you should be able to jump back in and use the PSN as intended.
Oddly though, PlayStation say that if anyone is “still experiencing issues” that they should “reset their password”. No further explanation is given on this, so we’ve no idea why they’re suggesting a password change.
We’ll update if more information is given.

Probably just a case from sony of being safe then sorry. We don’t really know what happened yesterday, so this advice from Sony seems to to be a precautionary action for people to use just in case of a worst case scenario, i.e a breach of the network.

Didn’t even notice the maintenance tbh. Why everyone makes such a big fuss over this is crazy.

Because Sony have reccomended resetting our passwords without explaining to us why and the unexpected maintiance yesterday can mean only 2 things. SCEE is at it again or it’s been rear ended by hackers again.

Lets hope its just SCEE !

“If you are experiencing problems” it says. Just everyone jumps on the hate Sony bandwagon every time there is a little hiccup or odd release statement.

…they deserve it though.

It’s easy to think the worst and fear we could have another hacking incident but in truth this is very unlikely. As some others have mentioned, its worth being cautious. It’s probably nothing, but worth being treated as something.

Change my password? This asks for a free game or two :p

That’s not good…
I’m already fairly paranoid online… even though the measures I take online would be considered normal, like deleted my Credit Card information after I make a purchase… I’m still paranoid.
Hopefully… it’s just really nothing and simply a technical fault at Sony’s part.

I’ve been having trouble logging in to PSN for weeks. Having to go through the network set up screen each and every time.
Then early last week I was instructed, via an on screen prompt, to change my password. Did this and I haven’t had a problem since.

i bet some one tripped over the psn network cable and that took it offline

Ive had it in the recent past come up with your password is invalid just ignored as sony said it was nothing to worry about worked perfect ever since until store went downt down other day. Tried several times to get the store up to get the MW3 content and after several attempts was greeted with your password is invalid didnt change it been sound since but think i might just consider changing it this time…just to be on safe side an that.
