Bethesda has released some more information about Dishonored in the form of answers to some fan questions.
Co-creative directors, Harvey Smith and Raphael Colantonio answered the questions through Bethesda’s blog giving information, such as Dishonored will last around 12 to 14 hours, but those who spend time eavesdropping on those around them will experience double that.
There are also six major powers and four abilities, as well as 40 additional minor powers that will be available through Bone Charms. However, these powers cannot all be equipped in one playthrough. These powers will use mana, a small amount that will regenerate, while the rest will have to be replenished with potions called Piero’s Spiritual Remedy. The two base powers, Blink & Dark Vision, will use very little mana effectively making them unlimited in use.

To me, it doesn’t sound quite long enough for a single player only game…

Double the length of uncharted games, which are seen to be some of the best sp games there is.

True, but they still have multiplayer. Not just that, but I took about 9-10 hours on the Uncharted’s, so it’s not that far away; I have no problem with short games either; I just think it looks a bit averagey (sword combat particularly). All IMO of course though:)

Uncharted 3 averages around nine hours playtime for main quest and extras (in the main quest) so this seems a lovely length game too. Also, it strikes me that it’ll be savoured by fans and replayed to hell.

I think they’re trying to emphasise the replay-ability with the game. A single player campaign is great at 12 hours as longer games need a much more immersive universe like final fantasy or skyrim. Great point about uncharted being a fantastic single player experience but with a shorter length than that. I don’t think there is much to worry about but the concept and gameplay does lean towards a lengthy showtime so I can understand any disappointment. Tis only a ball park figure though so perhaps your playthrough will be a lot more complete than theirs.

MGS 1 was around 6-7 hours long and that was and still is an excellent single player game. I do prefer longer stories though as i kinda hate buying a game and completing it within 1 or 2 sessions. :-/ As it will result in me putting it on the shelf as i tend to leave games alone after i’ve completed the main story for a while. :) 12-14 hours for a game is a rare thing nowadays or that what it feels like.

Not quite as long as I’d like but if you can’t get all powers in a single playthrough then at least it has more potential for replayability. Plus it may well get some DLC.
Still really looking forward to it.

Going off Single player only games this will see a massive price drop.
Look at Deus Ex / FF XIII-2 massive single player only games which sold well yet dropped really fast. Hell FF13-2 is less than £8.

I’m really excited for this, everything they say about it just ticks various boxes for me. I can not wait to try it out.

Happy with that kind of length, long enough for a decent story, but not so long that I’ll get sidetracked by other games.
The Lone Steven
That is a decent length and imo, more games should be 10hours+ as long as it fits with the pacing of the story. Or go the MGS route and make the game 99.8% cutscene. :p I think i’ll probably play untill i complete it once then play it again a few months later. Unless there is a ton of replayabilty that doesn’t require you to hunt for collectables as imo, it’s not that fun to spend hours searching for a collectable. :) Oh and if it has an Online pass, someone is getting a fist full of arrows to the balls.
