Don’t Expect Ryse Anytime Soon

Ryse was originally announced during Microsoft’s E3 2010 press conference and – believe it or not – is still in development.

“We’re still building Ryse,” said corporate VP of Microsoft Studios Phil Spencer.

See, told you.

The bad news is the game will not be shipping until at least summer 2013.

“We’re focused on games coming in the next twelve months,” said Phil, “Something I say every year, and it’s not something we’ll be shipping in the next twelve months.”

Aware that some may assume the delay would move Ryse on to the mythical Xbox 720 Phil said “I can play it on my 360. Actually, the last review I had with the team was probably four weeks ago and there are some very cool things the team is working on.”

  1. Isn’t this reasonable to assume it will be an Next-XBOX release title? The comments from Phil doesn’t say it’s coming out on the 360 only it’s playable on the XBOX 360 and doesn’t deny it’s for next-gen console and since next-XBOX is rumoured to be out by end of 2013, or is it just me? :)

    • It’s entirely possible, but I suspect they’ll release it on 360, as if the 720 or whatever they’ll call it is in development, odds are they don’t really know what the specs will be or even if it’s anywhere near ready to develop on yet, so they’ll probably release it on 360 would be my guess.

      • Many devs definitely have access to the next gen consoles for dev purposes already.

      • True, but with every respect, we’re not aware if the final specifications have been set already or if they’re still work in progress.

      • We are not aware of what the specs are, but by all means that doesn’t mean Devs don’t know, or have an idea of what kind of capabilities it will have. They won’t be developing a game without knowing roughly what they’re working with.

  2. Nextbox720 release title fo sho.

  3. After the abysmal failure of Steel battalion Kinect in kinect controls Ryse will probably end up on the next xbox which should have the much better motion recognition.

Or better yet just ditch motion controls altogether and get a bigger install base to sell to.

  4. Considering Crytek must have the CryEngine pretty well optimised for 360 at this stage, it does make you wonder why it’s taking so long to develop this game.

  5. Summer 2013 could still mean shipping towards the end of this gen if the holiday 2013 rumours are to be believed.
