Yesterday saw a rather dramatic turn around with Episode 2 of Telltale’s The Walking Dead. First we fired up a post complaining that the second chapter was still missing from the European PSN Store and then magically, an hour or so later, it appeared.
The problem was that people had bought a season pass for the full five episodes, and that initially we were told that they would appear on a regular, monthly rotation. The first episode arrived in April and yesterday was July, so something doesn’t quite fit there.
However, the developers have now stated that the third episode will arrive next month, in August.
“Although we can’t give you an exact date at this time,” says a blog post on the matter, “we can say that episode three will be ready in the middle of August, and that we and our partners will do all that we can to release all platforms and regions as close together as possible.”
“Our goal from day one has been to deliver your game episodes as quickly as possible, and where we can, simultaneously across all platforms and regions.”
“We’ve been working closely with our phenomenally supportive partners to try to make this a reality. We will continue to work on this and furthermore, we will strive to improve our communication with you so that you know what’s happening. Please rest assured that we are doing all we can to get your game episodes to you as quickly as possible.”

Hmm, a little concerning that they say they can’t tell us an exact date, like they said it would be “monthly”. But surely they can’t get it messed up again?!
And no, your goal wasn’t to deliver our game episodes as quickly as possible, it was to deliver them monthly, as stated when I handed over my cash.

I’m not really bothered by these delays, atleast not more than when any regular type release I’ve preordered gets delayed.

But do you usually put money down on a pre-order? I think people are just peeved as they have paid the full price for something that was supposed to be released monthly, just for the 2nd episode to dribble onto PSN 2 or so months late.
I think people are kinda right to be sceptical about this 3rd episode.

Tempted to grab the season pass, but I’ll hold out and see whether the whole lot gets put on PS+.

I will wait to see if they can get the next episode out within a month before I purchase another. I got the first one last week without the season pass, but it didn’t leave me begging for more. Though I did enjoy it and it was a nice change from all the other generic games I tend to play. So if they can bring them out monthly I’ll jump on the wagon, but if they can’t I’ll wait till they are all out.

I’m curious as to why Telltale is apologizing for the error. The game was passed to SCEE at or around the same time as SCEA so beyond some minor tweaks to geographically wording I can’t see a reason for a delay.

I guess Sony might have asked them to change something, and they might have taken longer to do it, who knows?
Also, perhaps they should take some responsibility for not having more of the game completed and passed through SCEE’s scrutineering before offering a season pass.
Fortuntely the game is fantastic so all will be forgotten in time, espeically if they can get the other episodes out promptly!

Not that I’ve purchased this or plan to but if they’re saying the middle of August then it’d be safe to assume they mean the 15th as that’s a Wednesday and the middle of the month. Pitchforks and sharp pointy things at the ready if it isn’t released by then people!

Well it was originally supposed to be monthly releases & now they are saying that the next episode will arrive next month.
So by that logic, you are likely looking at about October. :)
