Tokyo Game Show Will See A Shift Towards PS Vita

Sony hasn’t yet managed to convince the masses that buying a PS Vita is a good idea. The strong launch was dampened by retailers only picking up a handful of titles, and those same games still appear unchanged in many supermarkets, and often still at full price.

SCEA had a great chance to do this at E3, but somehow managed to almost completely ignore the portable, apart from a couple of token nods.

Well, it looks like the Tokyo Game Show might offer some highlights, as SCE CEO Hiroshi Kawano has, in an interview with Famitsu, indicated that the September show will see something of a shift towards the Vita, with the promise of some major game reveals that still have to be kept secret for now.

These are likely to be Japan-centric titles, but we’ll take anything just now.

Kawano also reiterated that another Game Heaven is planned, the last one hardly earth shattering. Hopefully this one might be slightly better structured and actually feature some games that aren’t at least a year away.

  1. To be fair, if their presentation consisted of Kawano or whoever taking to the stage and whispering “Monster Hunter” in the mic, that would do me.

In reality, all I want to see here is Sony showing off their software and assuring us that projects like Warrior’s Lair (despite being a Western-developed game) and Soul Sacrifice are still worth vouching for.

    • Ha ha I like the whispering MOnster Hunter bit.

They have a real opportunity here to show us all why people should buy a Vita. I hope there are some good reveals at TGS and some for the west as well.

  2. I want to see Phantasy Star Online 2 but Sega said the game was still in a very early stage.
I’d be happy with a Final Fantasy announcement, too…

  3. I want to see Sony get behind one of their products like never before. They seem woefully inept at this sort of thing and it pains me to see how they’ve handled the Vita thus far. It’s a lovely bit of kit – just convince everyone of it and it’ll sell.

  4. Sorry, what’s this Vita people keep going on about?

    • A PC Operating System by Microsoft I believe.

      • Ah, fair enough. I thought it was a rye based snack.
