Kazunori Yamauchi Hints At Gran Turismo 6 On Next Gen

Kazunori Yamauchi has been speaking at the China Joy game event in Beijing this week and has discussed Gran Turismo 6 and Gran Turismo Vita.

The news for a Vita version was rather vague, “If we were to make it, we’d like to make use of the ability to play anywhere and the ability to use 3G at any time,” he said.

Surely it’s a case of when rather than if?

As for Gran Turismo 6, Yamauchi said they had been working on the framework for the game since the completition of Gran Turismo 5, adding “We’re always aiming for the latest technology and the latest expression.”

PlayStation 3, lovely as it is, could not be described as “the latest technology”.

  1. If a Vita version of GT becomes a thing, I hope they call it GT Mobile, that was a much better title than GT PSP.

  2. I think it’d be great if someone other than Polyphony would make the Vita version. They could just take the assets and port them, then add specific Vita features. It would at least save Polyphony learning it all themselves, and we’d probably get a better game from it, faster.
    And I don’t like talk of next-gen…I’m gonna miss my PS3 :(

    • I’ve never liked the idea of palming off ports to other development companies. I think with the new PlayStation SDK etc, it’s a lot easier working with PS3 and Vita than it was PS3 and PSP.

As for the Vita features, I think just the option of the touchscreen for interacting with menus would be enough for me! :D

      • I’m sure Sony wouldn’t just ‘palm off’ a port to any old developer…at least a first party one, which would guarantee a good product. I’m just saying that could be a solution to get both games much quicker, rather than Polyphony wasting time on the Vita version and therefore taking more time to get GT6 into our hands.
Although yeah I dunno what Vita features I’d want…maybe car trading through Near? Hmm…maybe not!

    • Nooo!!! >.< just no.

  3. Call the Vita version GT Vita, which means GT Life =]

‘Latest technology’ may refer to development and software engineering practices, not necessarily new hardware. It’s a translation.

  4. I dribbled a bit thinking about GT6 on PS4 ;-o

  5. if they do a vita version, let’s hope it’s a full game, not just an arcade mode like the psp version.
and put the car upgrades in as well.

    • Yeah I hope its like that, though I liked how it was but you had to do lots of grinding to get like 1 million or something.

    • It felt like it was just the Arcade mode from older Gran Turismos.

THAT’S NOT WHY I (OCCASIONALLY) PLAY GRAN TURISMO POLYPHONY!

    • Honestly, I wish GT5 events worked the same way as the PSP version. The campaign mode is so limiting in terms of what you can drive and where. The approach used in PSP version meant that every car in your garage is a viable racer and every track is open to you. It means you can play it every single day and there is always something different you can try and you never run out of events.

      • In short, it was like a football game with one mode: ‘Single Match.’

      • And it was great because whatever campaign you or anyone else could imagine you could construct from single events. The only thing you couldn’t do was create the extra payoff of cup events where you need to place well in multiple races.

  6. I don’t care at all what PlayStation console GT6 is on. It can be on PS3 or PS4. That is, as long as Kaz satisfies our needs with a fully fledged GT (less maybe the Endurance races) for the Vita.

I also quite like Gadbury’s comment on how GT Vita would be GT Life. GT Vita FTW!

    But yeah, GT6 on PS4. Pure. Filth. :O ;)

  7. :O a new GT!…will only take about 4-5 years to make on the PS4.

    • Hopefully… they will use the same engine!

      • They will. It was a brand new engine for GT5 (that’s why it took so long) so GT6 will be an update of it.

    • Took them 6 years to make it for the PS3, expect 8 or 9 for the PS4. So count on GT6 by 2019 if oyu’re lucky :P.

  8. Cool, GT6 coming out in 2016! That is, if they can keep the same pace to release GT5. Oh, I forgot the PS4 will be more complex, make that 2019, when Microsoft launches Forza 7.

  9. “Kaz, and the team at Polyphony Digital find a lull in the schedule, between now and the next gen GT6 game release, and so start work on developing a Tourist Trophy 2 for the current gen PS3”
No wait!………damn this heat playing mind games. :P

    • I would buy a Tourist Trophy 2 on PS3 in a heartbeat… Loved that game on PS2! Only ever rented it though. :/ Nothing better than thrashing a 600cc Kawasaki around the Nordschleife!

I hope I haven’t gone down in your estimations by admitting I like both cars *and* bikes. :P

      • If it did happen, lets just pray they don’t call it 2Rist Trophy.

      • Perish the thought!! {:'(

    • No, that’s my whole point mate, I’d love it to happen, but it’s a pipe dream :P
