Galadriel, Ugluk Profiled For “Guardians Of Middle Earth”

When it launches later this year on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, Monolith’s Guardians of Middle Earth will be considerably different from the LOTR games many are used to.

Instead of re-adopting the action RPG focus that fuelled last year’s Lord of the Rings: War in the North, this latest instalment falls under the MOBA -or to be more precise, DOTA- genre. Two teams will compete to destroy enemy structures and crush their foes in ability-based, player versus player combat.

Several heroes have already been picked out for the coming fight including Gollum and Gandalf, both inspired by their motion picture counterpart. Joining them will be Galadriel of Lothlorien and Uruk-Hai captain (as seen above).

  1. I’m a massive Rings fan, but didn’t even get the last game. Hopefully the The Hobbit games will be less action and more adventure… :/

    • War in the North is pretty good. Picked it up last Saturday and I’ve been having great fun with it.

  2. I’ve only got one LOTR game on PS3, and Aragorn’s Quest was a big disappointment.

Loved the PS2 LOTR games though, and I can’t wait for LEGO LOTR.

  3. Imo, it will end up feeling like a mod for a generic DOTA game. That said, i can see it selling well due to a lot of LOTR fans liking DOTA and DOTA tends to be full of Tolkien-esque fantasy. However, i still believe Bioware should be given the license to do a few LOTR games as it would be up their alley. Or Bugthesda could do an open world LOTR RPG i suppose as when i think of LOTR, i tend to think of typical RPG aspects and the fact that it’s begging for a decent RPG game. LOTR:TTA was excellent even though it was a bit of a FF rippoff. Oh, i seem to have gone off a bit off topic.

Wonder if it will support Kinect and Move as i think DOTA would work very well and prehaps even better then the buttons. :O

    • ……..No, Bioware isn’t the same Bioware that wasn’t owned by EA.
