Guild Wars 2 Has Sold Over 2 Million Copies

NCsoft has just confirmed that its MMO sequel recently broke the 2 million sales mark a fortnight after the game’s launch.

It’s an astounding figure to say the least though not entirely unexpected given the popularity of the original. With that said, NCsoft were slightly put back due to servers issues (which disabled sales via its online store) and a shortage of retail stock.

Guild Wars 2 has also been subject to a string of rave reviews with a current Metacritic rating of 92.

However, as we know all too well, the success of any MMO isn’t simply gaged by launch reports and initial sales. World of Warcraft still boasts a playerbase of 10 million which is expected to increase with the launch of the behemoth’s fourth expansion, Mists of Pandaria.

  1. “World of Warcraft still boasts a playerbase of 10 million”

Is this 10 million active subscriptions or just 10 million accounts ?

    • Active.

      • Thanks for the reply.

10 million active subscriptions is good going for a pay per month mmo. Still 2 million sales of GW2 at launch is still impressive and hopefully will continue to grow.

Ive been playing since release day and im thoroughly enjoying the game. So much so that I cancelled my wow subscription.

  2. I’m having a blast with GW2.
The sales are no surprise, despite being barelly advertised. It does almost everything deferently, without stupid decisions, unlike most MMO’s that came after WoW.

It doesn’t have subsrciption, whatever you buy in the in-game store is purelly convinient or cosmetic (they don’t sell power), and still you can buy the currency for the store with in-game gold.
It’s understandable if you don’t want to stay in this game, but you have no excuse not to at least try it.
