Resident Evil 6 Gets Battered About As Reviews Land

Reviews have landed for Capcom’s big hitter Resident Evil 6, and the scores are pretty out there, with some (like Famitsu) scoring it highly, and others (as the embargo has just ended) going the other way.

Gamespot have scored it a surprisingly low 4.5/10, Edge magazine a 6/10 (with Eurogamer matching) and Polygon a 4/10.

A few print mags went slightly higher, though – PLAY with 8.8/10, Official PlayStation Magazine Italy a 9/10 and the US based official PlayStation magazine the same.

The Xbox 360 version (which seems to have the most so far) has an average of 65% from seven critic reviews, although that’s obviously changeable as the day progresses.

TheSixthAxis didn’t receive review code.

  1. I miss the early days, playing the original Resident Evil and Code: Veronica games. There was a heavy thriller component, with quiet rooms, and a good deal of strategy on how to spend ammo and which parts to visit/get back to. I simply don’t feel like playing these newer RE games anymore, which is sad, it’s one of the franchises that really impressed me when I first got my first Playstation 16 years ago.

  2. They should have made a scary event place like the mansion in RE1 or the Umbrella HQ and add Crimson Heads (Running zombies with claws in RE1 Remake…scary :O) or Leech Men (RE Zero enemies)…BAM! Scary game is reborn again!

Back to topic. 4/10 seems a bit harsh score for a big a franchise, but that doesn’t stop me to get this later when RE6 Gold Edition hit next year… hopefully.

  3. Decided to pick up a copy anyway (35quid for the steely tin). Played through the Leon campaign today with the other half and it was honestly 8 of the best hours I’ve seen come out of the RE franchise. Great pacing, enjoyable storyline and plenty of memorable moments. Granted I doubt Chris’ or Jake’s sections will impress me in the same way but so far so good :)

  4. I think ever since the films have been released its changed the way the developers thought of the games, they have tried to make the games more like the films and it hasnt worked, for me anyway!
