PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale Free DLC Announced

PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale launches on November 23rd with a host of famous faces including Sly Cooper and Sweet Tooth. We were expecting the DLC to start flowing to the store soon after that date but what we did not predict was the price, two new characters will be free to download for the first two weeks they are on the store.

The pair of characters will be available “early next year” and the are… drum roll please… Kat from Gravity Rush and Starhawk’s Emmett Graves. Perhaps not the chracters fans have been clamouring for (Snake!) but it does appear that they could bring new tactics and strategies to the game.

“In addition to the signature weapons you’ll remember from his duels with the Outcasts on Dust, Emmett’s play-style will also utilise Starhawk’s unique “Build-in-Battle” system, calling down help from the sky,” explains Seth Killian, Lead Game Designer at Sony’s Santa Monica Studio. “Kat’s approach turns gravity on its head with some mind-bending new ways to move as she positions herself for her unique brand of aerial assault.”

Before anyone climbs on their high horse and asks why the characters have not been included on the disk it is because work began on the DLC after the game went gold. It is good to see the game being supported by free characters rather than spamming gamers with hundreds of rather pointless costumes, Capcom should be taking notes.

No doubt there many more paid DLC characters on the way, notable omissions include Lightning from Final Fantasy and Ezio from Assassin’s Creed, both of whom were in the PlayStation “Long Live Play” advert. The Resistance franchise is also completely absent from Battle Royale, surely Nathan Hale and the Chimera will be included at some point?

  1. That is pretty cool to get two free characters. I hope there is a lot of DLC support.

  2. HUZZAH! I was hoping for those two characters, this is great news!

  3. Good news on both, I would have thought both will have unique mechanics.
If Crash does come, he will likely cost, but those who really want him will be willing to pay I guess.
    Roll on next Friday.

  4. sweet love that Kat will be in it.

  5. Lightning isn’t there? That’s dissappointing, and as some have mentioned – CRASH! We need some bandicoot..

  6. Great work from Superbot, now if only a character from Resistance would come soon.

  7. It’s funny how many people are put off from buying it because of 1 or 2 characters are ‘missing’. I understand how people want their favourite idols but clearly Superbot, if anything, have shown they give a hoot about fans and will try to get them even if as DLC. I’m sure most people will find a character that suits their style out of the current roster anyway.

Plus the roster variety is far better than that ‘other game’ so I’m pretty darn happy tbh.

    • Not me. I’ve been put off buying it cos it looks crap.

  8. If work began after the game went gold, how do they explain the leaked picture with Kat in it? We’re probably more likely to get Connor over Ezio, now that he’s the new poster-child. He’d fit in perfectly with the variety of weapons he’s carrying.

    • I’m guessing there’s a big difference between a screenshot of how she’ll look and making her fully playable.

  9. Great news. I wasn’t sure about this game at all, but after playing the beta and thoroughly enjoying it, this will definitely be on my Christmas list. Lovely to hear they are going to support it with free DLC as well, makes the decision even easier.

  10. Where is Rayman? :(
