“I can’t blame people for not believing,” he said, in response to claims of his long term over-promising and under-delivering, something that’s likely to prevent his recent Kickstarter for GODUS gaining much traction.
“I know I’ve said things. I wish I could not say them, I guess. I just… I still believe so much.”
Apparently at this point Molyneux was in tears.
“I swore that when we started 22 Cans that we wouldn’t over-promise, and I guess through stupid mistakes we have. I have to live by those. If it means that the project doesn’t get Kickstarted, if it means that people use the Kickstarter to vent their frustrations, then I guess I have to live by that.”
GODUS looks like a semi-promising Populous style thing, a game Molyneux was famous so back in the day. Molyneux describes it as “21st-century resolution and graphics and amazing visuals” but on a mobile platform.
“This is an experiment that is a game,” he explained. “It’s an experiment called Cooperation. We hinted at Cooperation about six months ago. It’s part of the plan. It’s another project. It’s an experiment in applying some of the stuff that we’ve learned from Curiosity – and we’re still learning masses from Curiosity – into this.”
“I’m one of those human beings who’s surprised he’s still alive every time he wakes up in the morning,” he said. “I think I will be doing games until the day I die. I can’t see that, at this rate, the way I’m burning through my life… I don’t see that I’ll be alive much longer.”

I don’t listen to him much. My opinion of the man is based on what he has done. In that regard, he is a legend. Thank you for the games, Peter.

I seriously have to puke.
This guy is nothing but marketing — my stomach still churns when I think about how he told in one interview that he “invented” TOUCH as a game mechanic, and in the same interview he said how he loved ICO (he mispronounced it, of course), from which he copied the whole thing.
He was in tears? He should be. There is a reason why people formed a facebook group to collect enough likes to force him quit the game industry.
Nothing but self-hype and everything-was-my-idea-in-the-first-place.
I have to puke.

I hate myself for saying this, but what he needs to do, is make a new Fable game. Stop the self promoting, and try to make a new Fable game that is actually innovative. Different timezone, different lands, different weapons/fight mechanics. You know, something that isn’t Fable 1/2/3 which are all far too similar. I mean Fable 1 and 2 were really great games. Fable 3 was too much of a Fable 2 expansion.
But I’m guessing 22Cans doesn’t have the manpower to pull something like that off if they are sticking to mobile games now and things like “Curiosity”, which still sounds like a cheap attempt at funding whatever game they chose to do next. I guess that was Godus. Resorting to Kickstarter now.
Have to give him credit for the Magic Carpet, Dungeon Keeper era games. But he needs to lay off the emo pills and start puting as much effort as he does into his hype-athons, into his game designs.

Typical Molyneux really: Promising us something right now which probably won’t happen for another 20 years or so….
