Snatch returns to scrape the last few bits of gaming news from the back of 2012 and, in many ways this feature is the ‘reformed ham’ of the gaming world. We take all the scrag ends, trotters and cartilage of the gaming news, squish it up in a massive bag, steam it for twelve hours with an artificially flavoured honey glaze of occasional humour and then present it to you as a delicious treat. Nom!
On with the news..
Free stuff ahoy! If you like this Facebook page then THQ qive you a free copy of Metro 2033 on PC. They have also released this action packed gameplay trailer for the forthcoming Metro: Last Light.
The latest ‘Twelve Deals Christmas’ on the PlayStation Store is for Medal Of Honor: Warfighter, reduced to £29.99/€39.99 with an additional 10% discount for PS Plus members taking the price to an almost tempting £26.99/€35.99. The offer expires 11.59pm on 12th December although you patience with the awfully slow PSN store may expire well before that time.
How many times have we heard this story: AAA developer says consoles are dead, can’t make any money, bobbles off to make iOS games never to be heard of ever again. Lots, that’s how many times. So, we were very interested to note this job advert for casual game giant, Popcap.
“The PopCap studio is looking for an experienced generalist SE to build a AAA console title. This generalist will work on a broad range of game systems including, but not limited to: animation, audio, resource management, pipelines and visual effects. The ideal candidate will also have experience working with the Frostbite 2 engine.”
Popcap have released a number of games on consoles but as lovely as Plants Vs. Zombies is you would be hard pushed to call it a triple-A title and the use of the Frostbite 2.0 engine would indicate a rather more substantial game than their usual fare.
Journey composer and Grammy nominee Austin Wintory has signed up to make sexy-love-time by composing the music for the Kickstarter funded remake of Lesiure Suit Larry. Apparently he will be composing ‘seedy, back alley kind of stuff.’
Valve had Dota2 running on a tablet but it was crap and Blizzard have got Diablo 3 running on consoles and it’s not crap but they have no plans to release the game. This is the gaming equivalent of dangling a tasty biscuit in front of a dog but then snatching it away at the last second and nomming it yourself.
Xbox 360 owners will be overjoyed to know a Sainsbury’s app is now live on their beloved console, how exciting!
The bargainalicious THQ Humble Bundle  has become even more enticing with the addition of Warhammer 40K: Dawn Of War. Control one of four unique races in head-to-head or cooperative multi player action, where faith, skill, and strategy are requisites in ruling the universes but be quick, you only have one day to pick up the pack.
And finally, a trailer for the new Assassin’s Creed III DLC, The Tyranny of King Washington.

Hmm, what are Popcap up to I wonder, enjoy their puzzle games but stepping up to AAA game development from Bejewelled should be interesting…….Vagazzled 3D?
Great snatch ;)

Lovely to see Popcap exploring new avenues. Talking of new avenues, very funny to see Austin Wintory diving into the “Cadbury’s canal” of games with Leisure Suit Larry. Wow… research must be fun for that. ;-)
