First PS4 Game Announced – ‘Knack’

So the PlayStation 4 is official now, and that means we can start seeing games for it. The first has just been announced over at Sony’s PlayStation Meeting – ‘Knack’ is a combat/action game in development at Japan Studio, directed by Mark Cerny.

There was a short trailer (and bit of gameplay!) shown off, showing a cute little robot – Knack himself – that can assemble and dissassemble himself at will to get through various platforming sections, or to defeat enemies.

It looks great too, of course.

  1. I can’t get the live stream on :-(

  2. Try gametrailers mate, working fine there, although i missed half if it trying to get this sites stream to work.

  3. Not working here, try gametrailers mate

  4. From the trailer, this wouldn’t look out of place if it were 5/6 years ago and it was the ps3 reveal we were all watching. Don’t mean to be negative but it’s nothing special

    • My thoughts exactly. I guess they are trying to replace Ratchet & Clank with this. The animation with all these little parts of that little fellow looks slick, but that’s about it.

  5. I thought it looked quite fun.

  6. Watched it all. It blew my mind :-)

  7. Not wishing to sound like a ‘Meldrew’ (I Don’t believe it….is a next gen game)….

Was’nt blown away by the Unreal 4 Tech.Demo doing the rounds months ago and this is the 1st game i’ve seen using it and if this is the sort of thing we can expect, then i agree with posters above. It honestly looks like the sort of thing i’d have expected Sony to be showing off at a PS3 reveal event.

If these next gen game engines are all about the advanced lighting and particle effects etc how about getting a little more creative with them, than serving up the sort of fodder that’s been doing the rounds since PS2 days.

Chap behind this was the creator of Marble Madness, no? IF so, i expected something a bit more original than this, it reeks of Kameco for PS4 (and Kameco on 360 bombed pretty much at retail did it not?).

I know it’s early days, launch games etc, but so far? PS4 just reading like a tick box of genres to cover.

    • I thought that in particular about Knack, this looked nothing more than a PS2 game and was a strange one to show off, especially first.

I wonder how many non-core gamers turned off

The rest of it, we’re the best part of a year from release so there’s so much work putting finishing touches to lighting & particles that nothing is really ready to show off yet.

  8. I just watched this now as the stream wasn’t having any of it for the first twenty minutes last night. It looks pleasant, relatively pretty fun, but was definitely an odd choice to go first before Killzone, Drive Club and Infamous.

  9. Let’s get cracking, with the knacking!
