Rainbow Moon Sequel Announced: Rainbow Skies

Following the arrival earlier this week of footage from the PS Vita version of Rainbow Moon, SideQuest Studios has continued with further announcements, releasing the first details of a full sequel entitled Rainbow Skies.

SideQuest Studios’ Marcus Pukropski said “Built on Rainbow Moon’s system, Rainbow Skies is a completely new game that is set in a new world with new characters and a new story…  A lot of feedback has been taken into consideration and we are confident that Rainbow Skies will offer an even deeper and more versatile gameplay experience, while staying absolutely true to its roots.”

[drop]Speaking to IGN, Nils Ngai from publisher EastAsiaSoft also indicated that the title would likely be a PlayStation exclusive, though no platforms had been confirmed.

The publisher continued with further details of the sequel; “Rainbow Skies will have two parallel worlds that the player can explore, a light and a shadow world. Everything will be really green and colourful in the light world, while the shadow world will have a much darker theme. There will also be some interactions and connections between these two worlds.”

“[EastAsiaSoft and SideQuest Studios] will be focusing on a much stronger visual variety in Rainbow Skies. There will be a lot more assets this time to avoid repetition. For example, each dungeon will have a completely different theme with unique objects. Whenever the player explores new regions or a new dungeon, he will instantly feel that he is in a new place. This will also be supported by an even wider range of background music tracks.”

[drop2]”The story in Rainbow Skies will be told through an improved dialog system. There will also be a new emotion system that allows better expression of the characters’ personalities. The battle system will remain turn based but [EastAsiaSoft and SideQuest Studios] plan to add a few new action elements during dungeon exploration. For example, there will be traps and projectiles that the player has to evade. In addition, there will also be more puzzles for the player to solve.”

This week has been a great one so far for Rainbow Moon fans. Rainbow Skies is due for release in 2014.

  1. Can anybody that’s played the original Rainbow Moon give me their opinions on what it’s like? I’ll be very interested in the Vita version and do enjoy JRPGs, but many reviews seem to suggest it’s a bit of a grind. I’d be interested in any TSA-er’s thoughts before I crack open my PSN wallet.

    • The original Rainbow Moon was enormous fun. Never felt like I was grinding just to level up and get anywhere all the the time. Some bits chucked a lot of fights at you, if you wanted to get everything out of the game.

The trophy for playing for 100 hours popped up on me unexpectedly. Didn’t realise I’d been playing that long on my way to the platinum trophy.

So a lot of game there for your money, and well worth it. IF you like that sort of game. If you like your RPGs to be “Press X repeatedly for 10 minutes to kill boss”, it’s not for you. If you like grids and making sure characters are in the right place on a grid and many other things related to a regular pattern of squares, it’s ideal.

      • Agree with yd
Its was a great game with a nice tactical battle system

      • Thanks for the summary dude. I love SRPGs more than JRPGs (FF:Tactics, Front Mission, Fire Emblem etc) so it sounds perfect. Plus it looks lovely so I think I’m sold!

  2. I don’t really have the time for these games on PS3, but if it comes to Vita like Rainbow Moon is, it’ll be a purchase for sure!

  3. YES YES YES!

  4. Nice to hear,i for one will be getting the sequel as well as the vita version.I liked the female character with the bow as she had the best chance to hit nearly anyone on the grid.
