Last Week’s UK Sales Chart Sees Gears Of War At The Top, Walking Dead: Survival Instinct At Number Three

Gears of War: Judgment, a game that continues to feel completely wrong when you type it, is number one in the UK sales charts. It’s a good enough game (scoring 7/10) but shows the power that a bit of marketing (and a fairly quiet 360-exclusive line-up) can do.

What’s more surprising is the fairly dire Walking Dead: Survival Instinct has appeared at number three on Xbox 360 and number seven on PS3. Tomb Raider continues to sell well, but God Of War: Ascension has dropped from number two to number five.

Here’s the full chart, courtesy of Chart-track.

  1. WHO KEEPS BUYING SKYRIM?!

  2. It’d be interesting to see if Tomb Raider outsold GoW:J in combined sales.

  3. Hardly surprising to see Gears take top spot but I think its safe to say Bioshock Infinite will take its place next week. A mate of mine got a copy from Simplygames on Saturday and I have to admit its great so far. Finally a true sequel to the excellent Bioshock1 :-)

  4. Games don’t really sell on ps3 do they, even FIFA seems to sell more on 360

    • Certainly seems to be the case. Even the likes of Uncharted usually stay in the charts for a week or two before falling off the edge, never to be seen again. Weird how the gaming market works.

      • uncharted stays in the chart a long time.

    • Yeah, as a single format… Xbox & Wii titles always seem to be in the charts, higher & for longer.

Gran Turismo, although not troubling the charts with weekly sales since both its launch period & pricedrop period, it has sold consistently well since then & over the long term clocks up a considerable volume of sales. It is by far Sony’s biggest exclusive.

Although Forza Horizon has held to the charts well & seems to have a longer tail than previous Forza releases…

Many Sony titles have floundered through lack of effort on Sony’s part though, thinking back to a whole clutch of releases last year including Sorcery, Starhawk & Twisted Metal.
They seemed to get their act together for Christmas with the trio of LBP: Karting, PSASBR & Book Of Spells receiving more advertising than Nintendo & Xbox added together, but Sony perhaps backed the wrong horses that year as none of them troubled the charts for long.

Although with God Of War: Ascension Sony seem to have reverted to type

  5. Had a look at metacritic reviews for Walking Dead SI. A strange mix of 10/10 and very low ratings.

  6. Didn’t Legocity release last week?

    • It’s not out till this Friday – nice to see Monster Hunter Ultimate make it in there (MCV’s chart has it in a higher spot though?).

      • Aah, probably because that’s combined sales!

  7. It’s good to see what games are selling well for different formats but a combined chart would be nice too.
