Rumour: “Full Blown” PS4 Reveal In April Or May

According to a story over on PC Mag Sony isn’t done with its pre-E3 PlayStation 4 campaign, and plans to have one more blow-out before Los Angeles.

The site points to a “big announcement” from the company, which has so far shown the system’s spec, some launch window games, the controller and a rough release date – currently just “Holiday 2013”.

Information from PC Mag’s source is thin on the ground, but given rumours of a similar event from Microsoft on their next console, Sony would be well poised to spoil any such Xbox-flavoured conference.

Sony are yet to talk about the PlayStation 4’s price and physical form, two things that such a pre-E3 event could neatly focus on.

That would leave the LA show to concentrate on the games, of which only a handful (Killzone, DriveClub) are currently known, alongside any third party releases like the next Assassin’s Creed, which will also appear on so-called ‘current’ gen devices like the PS3.

Whilst we’re hoping the rumours are true, we’ll reserve any excitement for such an event until Sony start the teasers again. Watch this space.

  1. So many good decisions, Sony… is that really you?

    Colour me excited!

  2. Anything to deflate Microsoft is a good thing. Sony shouldn’t let MS get to far. They need the lead on this generation. So far I think they have done all the right things. Teased games and got developers onboard teased the hardware specs and showed off the updated controller.

  3. Sounds like a good plan, I’m hoping it’s true. They should try to keep MS from getting all the attention pre-E3.

  4. Well bloody hell Sony, if this is true then they truly have turned over a new leaf.

  5. How exciting! I’m looking forward to seeing the console itself, it would be nice if there was a brief event with that reveal and a little bit of new gameplay footage to gawk at.

My imagination is playing games with me at the moment, the controller is starting to look like an old Dualshock wearing a wetsuit, with a little visor where the touch pad is. I wonder if it’ll follow the Japanese trend of being waterproof? That would be brilliant, I’d love a PS4 installed in my bathroom, it would be complimented by a Vita handily mounted above the loo roll holder. The cameras might cause trouble though…

    • Your imagination is definitely running on notch number 11 lol

      • Hah yep, but it does look a bit wet suitish right? I’m not going mad am I?

  6. Sony’s new marketing company are certainly earning a good reputation for themselves, it will be interesting to see if they are waiting for MS to show their hand before trumping them or if they will go for another media grabber just prior to the MS announcement thus stealing some of the MS thunder.

  7. Even If just one of the negative rumours surrounding the new XBOX prove to be true, I would imagine Sony’s marketing team will focus heavily on exploiting any weakness in the systems shortcomings, blows will be traded on both sides no doubt, the right marketing will matter just as much or even more than the better system specs of course, and remember MS proved that when they launched the Kinect vs Move, but this time Sony’s new marketing team seem a lot more ready to react to the inevitable marketing war.

  8. This rumour itself is clever, I now find myself more interested in the prospect of more PS4 details than the reveal of the next Xbox.
    Kevin Butler to host?

  9. I really hope this is true. I loved the PS4 exitement that surrounded the official announcement and everything that followed. I felt like a child again, back when videogames were the most important thing in my life. Good times! :D

  10. Everything about the PS4 is sounding good and Sony are doing a great job. Have a horrid feeling that the pricing is going to be the bad bit.

    • I hope Sony have learnt their lesson form the PS3 launch price.
It would be a shame if all the praise and good vibes they’ve been getting since Feb is ruined by a high price.

      • I’m not sure what is a “high” price now. When the PS3 came out most phones didn’t cost much more than £100 on pay as you go, now they’re more like £400-600.

Then you have tablets that are out dated every 6 to 12 months costing over £300.

You’d expect to get at least 5 years out of a console, the PS3 launch price looks a lot more reasonable compared to current technology.
