War Thunder To Join PS4 Free To Play Line-Up

Free-to-play is one of the biggest movements in the video game industry. For several years now companies have been experimenting with new business models in order to outdo competitors though home consoles have yet to fully embrace this new phenomenon.

Out of the “big three” Sony has been striving to get more F2P content on its platforms with games such as Free Realms, DC Universe Online, DUST 514, and a suite of Vita titles leading the charge. With the advent of the PlayStation 4, we can expect to see even more free-to-play experiences, Gaijin Entertainment’s War Thunder being one of them.

Centred around first-person, vehicular combat, War Thunder has replicated dozens of fighter planes, land units, and ships, throwing them into WW2-inspired battlegrounds. Already available on PC (via open beta) the game is set to make its console debut on the PlayStation 4 this holiday season.

Though specific details have yet to surface, Gaijin confirmed that War Thunder will make full use of the PS4’s hardware capabilities as well as its innovative Dualshock 4 controller and social/Cloud features.

  1. Looks pretty good from the videos on their website.

  2. Noticed this yesterday but didn’t realise it was F2P.
I like the idea of F2P as you can try before you need to spend any money, a lot better than demos.

  3. Gaijin have been really good with this genre on the PS3 beore, and I really enjoyed Birds of Steel, so this will be one to watch closely on the PS4.

  4. I have my reservations that FTP will bring anything to the table for me as a sp, offline gamer but we’ll see.

  5. Based on it being http://FTP….I‘m oooot !

    • errrr…not sure what happened there with that link? I didn’t put a link there.

  6. I’m yet to be convinced by F2P, but we’ll see.

  7. Sounds interesting. Still waiting for the Planetside 2 for PS4 announcement.

  8. Still waiting to see how they balance this, Right now its pretty much if a plane wants something on the ground or in the water dead then its as good as gone. There are AA guns but they dont really bother you too much.

  9. First i’ve heard of this game. Just watched some utube vids & it looks cool. A nice balance between arcade & sim. I do hope we get a full military flight sim on ps4. A genre that made no appearance this gen. The last sim i played was on the Amiga lol.
