Star Wars KOTOR Ported To iPad – Release Expected Soon

Maybe I haven’t been paying attention but it was quite a surprise to see a review of this game appear this morning. IGN has had an early look at an iPad port of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, carried out by Mac porting specialists Aspyr.

They say it’s pretty good, too. Most Star Wars gamers are aware that the game itself – now ten years old – is really very good but this new tablet port has been praised. The review says that, in spite of a few issues with getting around, it works brilliantly on the touch screen. in fact, the IGN review says that the touch interface is an improvement in many ways, albeit with some minor drawbacks.

It’s a drag-and-hold system for the movement so this means no clunky on-screen overlays but it also means your hand is likely to be in the way of the display for much of your play time. Still, menus and inventory management are a perfect fit for touch controls and this is a great chance for a generation of Star Wars fans, who may never have got around to playing the PC game, to get their hands on the best Star Wars RPG available.

There’s no word of a release date but, if it’s being reviewed now, hopefully we’ll see it this week.

  1. Never played this so I’m tempted to pick this up when it comes round. Hopefully, it will run ok on the iPad 2.

Wish I’d gone for more than 16GB now though, I keep on having to delete things to make room.

    • I got my iPad a month or so ago – had to go for the 128gb badass :)

  2. Very cool! Will defs be picking this up. Gameplay on the second one is better, but the first has a far better story. Must be one of the best Star Wars games ever made.

  3. There have been some excellent classics being ported to tablets in recent years, KOTOR will definitely suit being portable with touch controls. I think it’s time I got an ipad.

  4. Love that game. Stick it on the Vita!

  5. It’s now available on the App Store for £6.99.

  6. I’d love to see it come to the PS3 or Vita.
Failing that, the google play store would do. :)
