DCUO And PlanetSide 2 Make The Jump To PS4

If Warframe and Dragon’s Dogma Quest wasn’t enough Sony free to play lovin’ for one day, the publisher has also confirmed that both DC Universe Online and PlanetSide 2 will make appearances on its next-gen console.

Having celebrated its second anniversary back in January, DC Universe Online is one of Sony Online Entertainment’s strongest games to date. Boasting a fluid, fast-paced combat system and hundreds of customisation options, the superhero MMO went free-to-play at the end of 2011.

Since then the game has been expanded with both free and premium content drops, introducing in-game elements such as player housing and crafting.

Details surrounding the PlayStation 4 port are slim, though it’s reported to launch soon after the platform’s release. Hopefully the new hardware will allow SOE to squeeze more out of DC Universe Online in terms of fidelity and performance.

Perhaps more exciting is the news that PlanetSide will make its console debut this year. Combining slick gunplay with a persistent game universe and three-way faction battles, PlanetSide 2 is the mother of all MMOFPSs and will no doubt have shooter fans fired up across the globe.

Sony’s free-to-play initiative may have looked somewhat bareboned a few months ago but after today it has three new major players, all of which speak towards Sony’s belief in diverse gaming experiences.

  1. F2P suck. I wont be touching any games that do this.

    • Such a shame you have this attitude, fella. There are genuinely good F2P games out there. All you have to do is find them and manage any transactions. Keep in mind that many of them can be enjoyed for absolutely bugger all. Hell, I had tens-of-hours of fun in League of Legends before parting with money and that was STILL my own choice.

Also, it doesn’t squeeze out the paid for games, I’m sure. Never say never. See what comes along. If nothing takes your fancy then so be it. There’ll still be a stunning amount of fun to be had with the PS4.
