DCUO And PlanetSide 2 Make The Jump To PS4

If Warframe and Dragon’s Dogma Quest wasn’t enough Sony free to play lovin’ for one day, the publisher has also confirmed that both DC Universe Online and PlanetSide 2 will make appearances on its next-gen console.

Having celebrated its second anniversary back in January, DC Universe Online is one of Sony Online Entertainment’s strongest games to date. Boasting a fluid, fast-paced combat system and hundreds of customisation options, the superhero MMO went free-to-play at the end of 2011.

Since then the game has been expanded with both free and premium content drops, introducing in-game elements such as player housing and crafting.

Details surrounding the PlayStation 4 port are slim, though it’s reported to launch soon after the platform’s release. Hopefully the new hardware will allow SOE to squeeze more out of DC Universe Online in terms of fidelity and performance.

Perhaps more exciting is the news that PlanetSide will make its console debut this year. Combining slick gunplay with a persistent game universe and three-way faction battles, PlanetSide 2 is the mother of all MMOFPSs and will no doubt have shooter fans fired up across the globe.

Sony’s free-to-play initiative may have looked somewhat bareboned a few months ago but after today it has three new major players, all of which speak towards Sony’s belief in diverse gaming experiences.

  1. Love the sound of Planetside 2. Teetering on the edge of buying a PS4 at this point. E3 might seal the deal…if I can get the money of course!

  2. Planetside 2 should translate pretty well, it helps that it’s also a very good game.

  3. Whilst these genres don’t really appeal to me, its great that the PS4 is supporting it fully. The more diversity and games dedicated to the system, the better.

  4. More gamezzzzz!!

    • There’s already too many to play, too little time for playing. At least there’s plenty to choose from for the PS4, and even more after Tuesday.

  5. I’ve been waiting for Planetside 2 to be announced for PS4. That’s going to be brilliant, I can’t wait to try it out.

  6. With mandatory remote play that effectively gives us DCUO on Vita! (Sort of).

    Could be dangerous :)

  7. Sweet I played alot of DCUO on PS3 and a Lil on PC.
Still trying to get into PlanetSide 2. Hopefully, they’ll include a small tutorial for the PS4 version. Hurry up E3!

  8. So PS4 is going to have a gazillion games at launch then :)

Time to invent that immortality serum..

  9. This is great news. I will definitely play Planetside 2 and might even give DCUO a spin if there’s ever a dry spell of games after the initial launch firework.

  10. Nice to see Sony going for every type of game: indie, MMO and the classic AAA single player.
