Ubisoft To Unveil New Prince Of Persia Next Week

After years of waiting, it looks like we’ll finally get to see the next step in one of Ubisoft’s most beloved series. That’s according to the latest message posted on the games’ official Facebook page:

Get ready for some news about Prince of Persia, starting next week…

The announcement has already drawn a response from thousands of fans around the world but there’s no clue as to what this next Prince of Persia could be. A common suggestion, as seen in the Facebook comments, is an open-world game akin to Assassin’s Creed though, with Black Flag and Watch Dogs in the pipeline, another sandbox game could brand Ubisoft as a one-tricky pony.

Personally, I’d like to see the publisher pick up where it left the 2008 spin-off. Though a fairly short and linear game, it was enjoyable from start to finish with a decent story, characters, and mechanics.

Whatever it is, we’ll be sure to know this time next week. Until then, feel free to speculate.

  1. I bet you, I really do, quite a lot of stuff, this turns out to be a mobile game on ios and Android and is received with complete uproar.
See that dead donkey ubisoft? Stop flogging it!

    • I think you could be right!

    • Oh god, you’ve got a point. Let’s hope not.

I was a big fan of PoP 2008, but there’s no way they’re going back to that, it was too divisive.

Assuming it is a new console game, i’m really interested to see where they take it.

    • Aww, I was meant to write that. But we are approaching Gamescom, so who knows?

    • Yep, that’s the first thing that came to my mind. I’m setting myself up for disappointment.

  2. I’m sorta excited because Prince of Persia is one of my favourite franchises despite Forgotten Sand being the worst in the series….. but I hope it isn’t mobile, a re-release basically. Anyway I hope it picks up from the end of PoP 2008 or perhaps something within that myth. I really liked the world and visuals though the gameplay had tended to get quite tedious. A return to the Sands of Time timeline.. would be odd though.

  3. iOS game. If it was anything console it would have been at E3.

  4. Don’t get to excited just see what happened with deus eX, all expected a sequel to the brilliant Deus Ex : human Revolution and we get an ios gameZzzzz.

  5. Yeah my money is on a mobile game. If not I hope it doesn’t follow on from the mess than was the 2008 PoP, what a awful awful game that was.

  6. I think an open world PoP would be very cool indeed, roaming around Arabia would be class….but the more i think of it now it could just turn out to be another Assassin’s Creed if it wasn’t handled properly.

  7. This has got Wii U exclusive written all over it :-/

    • That was my first thought too.

  8. I personally enjoyed the 2008 entry in the series and I liked the banter between the Prince and Elika.

  9. Really don’t like PoP. I must be missing something cos I have no clue why it’s so popular. Played the PS3 one and didn’t complete it, found it quite dull. Then got the HD trilogy and played Sands of Time which was one of the worst games I ever played. Poor combat, boring story…. What is it that everyone else seems to love?!
