The Last Of Us Tops 3.4 Million Sales, Fastest Selling PS3 Game This Year

Naughty Dog’s The Last Of Us has shifted more than 3.4 million copies, as of last Tuesday (so it’s undoubtedly even more just now) – that makes it the fastest selling PS3 game of 2013 and the fastest selling new software title in the entire history of PlayStation.

That’s not bad numbers for a new IP in just three weeks.

“These sales figures are a testament to the blockbuster quality of The Last of Us,” said Shuhei Yoshida, President of Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios.

“The teams at Naughty Dog are true visionaries and their storytelling capabilities are second to none, this title is an undisputed demonstration of that. SCE continues to be committed to delivering unique gameplay experiences that redefine the interactive entertainment industry and The Last of Us is a perfect example.”

That’s 1,000 sales for every word of my review. I think.

  1. You should have written your review as a haiku, for an even higher sales:word ratio. :P

That’s awesome for ND and Sony, though. Very much vindicates their decisions to release on PS3, do so during the summer months, in the looming shadow of the next generation etc. etc.

  2. Amazing considering news of the PS4 etc. I haven’t yet played it but will be after I get through Bioshock. If its anything like Uncharted in quality, then i know I will love it.

  3. Well deserved, though I find it amazing it’s the highest selling new ip in the history of Playstation.

    • Doesn’t say highest, says fastest.

  4. And publishers still complain that it’s too risky to create new IPs.
I’m glad Naughty Dog has the talent and the balls to continually raise the bar for gaming on the PS3 and hopefully on the PS4.

  5. This is sort of game that people clearly want and isn’t something you’ll be finding on tablets or phones.

As long as games likes this are being made consoles will be around for a long time.

Now if only we could clone Naughty Dog a dozen times.

    • But touchscreens….

Nah I completely agree. Consoles will never be replaced by touchscreen phones or tablets. Like you said as long as games of this quality are being made consoles will always be the best place to play games.

  6. Game of the generation without a doubt for me. Absolutely stunning!

    • Game of all generations for me! I haven’t experienced a game anywhere near the quality of TLoU before. Actually I have, Uncharted! ND are my fav dev by far, followed closely by Rockstar!

    • For me… I think so. Journey would be close to the top too but for very different reasons. Ultimately it’s about what this generation has been able to allow developers to do and ND ( as well as thatgamecompany) has shown us that not only is the PS3 capable of wonderful games but developers are finally pushing every boundary possible… sometimes all at once in a single game. :-)

  7. Downloaded TLoU of psn last week and played it through to the end and i rate is as one of my games of all time. The story, graphics and character acting in the game was superb. 10/10
Now i’m patiently waiting for GTA 5 :)

  8. Great news! Hopefully they don’t do a Square Enix and announce they haven’t hit their sales target, so the game is a failure!
Honestly though, it’s a brilliant game, really enjoying both the single player and the online multi-player. It’s unusual to have both parts of a game be so well put together and fun. Can’t wait to see what they come up with next.

    • I agree. I wish the Uncharted multiplayer was more like TLoU – slower paced and less chaotic – as I do enjoy it. The Unchartered muliplayer is just really hard to get into as a noob, you just get your ass handed to you all the time :(

  9. Started playing it last night, and it’s well deserved. The game oozes with quality and attention to detail.

  10. I’ve just this minute finished it. A truly great game. I can’t wait for DLC. It deserves game of the gen accolade, let alone best game ever.
