Vita Firmware 2.60 Brings UI Improvements and Streaming Media

A firmware update has appeared for the Vita overnight, bringing a smoother looking user interface, more PS Plus functionality (ahead of it being required for online play on PS4) and some impressive streaming media functionality with PCs and PS3s.

As you can see in the first image above, some antialiasing has finally been added to the bubbles on the home screen along with other usability upgrades (presumably in the background).

There’s also a new Plus section in each game’s livearea, which allows for quick uploading and downloading of  cloud saves, with another option to switch on the service globally.

As well as these UI changes, the PS button has been altered too – when you hold it down, you’ll be able to switch on or off airplane mode, WiFi and even bluetooth.

The system will now also be able to stream media – music and videos, that is – from a PC or PS3, which is quite impressive.

  1. Aliasing looks much better, media streaming is great news (and past due).
Vita is really quite lovely now, isn’t it?

    • Truly is :) The new switches (WiFi, BT and airplane mode) are something I wanted for a long time. Thanks SONY ^^

    • Seems like it now its got the best of the PSP incorporated! I’m tempted to buy one… again… For the third time. BRY, how’s the update? I need to get my Vita fix vicariously through you so I don’t lose my self control and buy another :)

  2. I love the quick upload/download PS+ feature for game saves. I’ll use that a lot!!

  3. Looking good. Seems the vita upgrades lately are always adding something nice. :-)

  4. Nice update, is the media streaming done via Remote Play?

  5. It’s still a bloody ugly and inconsistent UI in my opinion. I too am hoping that it comes more into line with the PS4 UI. I mean, bubbles for Christ’s sake.

    • Can’t agree enough.
UI was awful from the outset.

Surely they’ll overhaul it to fit with PS4 UI.
If not then the Vita’s UI will look VERY old very quickly.

Still – Antialiasing is better than no antialiasing, and maybe it’s an improvement in the rendering of the UI altogether (paving the way for the future upgrades).

  6. These additional features sound great, being able to turn bluetooth on quickly will make it nice and easy when using my headset.

  7. Really useful additions. It really annoyed me that I had to go into settings to turn the wifi on and off.

    Streaming is really useful too.

  8. Simply brilliant, the quick access to connectivity-switches is lovely.

  9. Que McDonnalds Advert music……Were lovin it!

  10. nice, now all i need is a shortcut to volume controls! (tis a bit awkward reaching the top of the vita to adjust vol cos of the flat design of the buttons).
