UK Games Charts: 19/08/13 – PayDay Knocks Minecraft Down A Notch

I didn’t even really mean for that pun in the title to happen, it just did. Yes, it seems that Minecraft has been blocked from the top spot by heist shooter PayDay 2, which is absolutely brilliant news; it’s great to see two once-indie developers hit the big time with two fantastic games.

Black Ops II has had a bit of a resurgence, too, jumping up to third, with FIFA in fourth, which is followed by the ever-present Animal Crossing: New Leaf and Sony’s incredible The Last of Us at fifth and sixth respectively.

  1. Who are the people still buying FIFA and Call of Duty? Who!?

    • What you’ll find is that COD’s sales are so truly massive that it’s own trickle of sales, months after a title has appeared, still eclipses most other titles in their formative weeks.

When we’ve had articles on here about games like Tomb Raider not hitting their target, it seems incredible and unfathomable. However, when you look at the likes of Black Ops selling over twenty million copies across the major platforms, it’s easy to see that the tale end of their revenue stream is very impressive. It’s the reason why we don’t see them discounted much in the likes of Steam’s sales.

  2. I know, who is still buying COD?!?! Are people that sad that they need to rebuy COD so they can “practice” the art of pushing two buttons for preparation for the next COD which will play exactly the same as every other COD since 2007.

  3. I was surprised to see Payday 2 was sold out in my local GAME yesterday – good on them.
