Most of this week’s WeView comments were from people who enjoyed previous Resident Evil games but didn’t bother with the sixth instalment due to its poor initial reception.
That means there were only three responses from people who had played the game, in among the “never really grabbed my interest”, “haven’t got round to playing it”, “didn’t enjoy the demo” and “stayed away” comments.
Eldave0 enjoyed the title, describing it as a “great co-op action game” but a “crap Resident Evil game”. He said that while the controls and camera “aren’t always spot-on” and there’s a “fair bit of padding going on”, he did enjoy the overlapping story lines and the “huge amount of content to play through”.
Not quite as enamoured with the title, Starman “found most of the game ok”, saying that he found the general zombie sections enjoyable but found the regenerating and recurring bosses “very tedious”, as well as the repetition in having to play through the same sections with different characters.
Starman finished by saying that the online mode was the surprise saviour of the show for him, and that he “had some good games on it”.
I thought JR.‘s comment was absolutely brilliant, summing up why Capcom’s marketing and false promises completely ruined any hope the game could be a good Resident Evil game:
For months leading up to the release of Resident Evil 6, we were told how they had taken the game back to the series roots. You can imagine my disappointment when I sat down with the game on release day and within the first 5-10 minutes I had escaped from a helicopter with a mini gun, dodged an exploding harrier jet, run down a congested freeway with cars exploding around me, jumped from an exploding car into a helicopter, collided with a high speed train and finally, crashed into a high-rise building. I’m not sure which series roots they had gone back to but it certainly wasn’t Resident Evil.
He then listed all of his good points (none) and many bad points, describing the “paper thin plot” as “absurd”, the “unnecessary” set pieces, the lack of explanation and backstory, and plenty of other complaints which you can read here.
So, Resident Evil 6 wasn’t that great overall, with two Bargain Bin It ratings and one Avoid It (like the plague) rating. It’s a shame, and the reception doesn’t bode well for the series’ future.
As you can see in the poll above, Injustice: Gods Among Us is gone which means that we’ll be focusing on that in tomorrow’s WeView. Voting begins for next week, with Thomas Was Alone and Spec Ops: The Line returning. With Killzone: Mercenary releasing this week, the previous Vita FPS attempt, Resistance: Burning Skies also joins the poll, along with SimCity to coincide with its release on Mac last Thursday.

i only really tried the demo, but i thought it was a good, but not great action title, this is only based on the short section in the demo though so it’s not a definitive verdict.
i actually enjoyed it more than i expected, more than Resi 5 actually.
without the weight of expectation that came with the Resident Evil name, this might have been considered a decent game, but it did, and was considered a bit of a failure.
from my limited play i’d probably have gone for bargain bin it, that’s what i’ll do when i find a copy cheap enough.
and just pretend it’s not a Resident Evil game.
although, like i said, it felt like a step up from 5. ^_^

Well what can I say about this one.
Hmm I loved it I liked the change of pace, the walking and shooting the story. But most of all I loved the length it took a long time to finish all 4 of the campaigns, unlike 5 which I could smash in less than 5 hours.
I spent £40 on this game it worked out at £10 a campaign and at 5 plus hours each one I have to say a real a value for money title.
Even better now at under £20 The multi-player took a bit of getting used to but was fun.
I would say to anyone buy it, a good story, good action and overall really playable game.
The only complaint I would make is its no where near as scarey as the first two which they do need to tweak for the next one.
JR.
I actually didn’t mind RE5. I didn’t love it but I still enjoyed it for what it was. RE6 tried to appeal to as many people as possible and the game suffered as a result. It actually made the movies look good.
I hope Capcom quit chasing COD/FIFA sales figures and focus on making a great game next time. Hopefully a reboot. Because if there’s one series in need of a reboot it’s Resident Evil.

Bought it, played it for ten minutes, haven’t gone back.
