Bad news if you don’t have first class delivery on your GTA V order – retailers won’t be dispatching the game until the day before release, Monday the 16th of September.
In a statement from retailer GAME to customers, Rockstar have requested that retailers don’t stick the game in the post until the day before, so that the game doesn’t reach customers early:
They have requested that no UK retailer despatch GTA V before the 16th September and GAME, along with all reputable retailers, will respect this request.
It makes sense; copies dispatched on Friday or Saturday could likely arrive on Monday, and Rockstar want to have this game locked down.
My GameStop pre-order at £4.97 doesn’t seem quite as enticing now that I know I might not get it until later in the week. Perhaps I’ll order at Amazon, who have release day delivery guaranteed with every order.

I hate this industry gimmick that their game is so precious it can’t be played a day early. They still get the sale so what difference does it make.

Suppose it gives clever hackers a few days to grab the code, put it up on the internet for download and effect sales. Or something?

^^^ defo something along these lines, spoilers, cheats, hacks etc etc.
All game company’s have a reason for not wanting it be released before its release day… that’s why they have release days,
imagine if several joe publics recieved a console prior to release day and they have time to hack and slash it,

Tesco (online) have a lovely pre-order if anyone is still thinking about it. Pre-order any game over £35 and they knock a fiver off of the total. This means that it’s been the cheapest I could find by quite a long way.
theberzerka
I chose to go with Game and googled voucher codes. I got 10% off the special edition.

Problem is with Tesco, they are shit. I used them once, and never got my game, let alone on release day. Took me nearly two weeks to get a refund while I had to wait for stock of the game in the meantime. Pathetic company for gaming in my opinion.

I pre-ordered at Amazon when the price dropped to £35 and although the price is fluctuating almost hourly (mainly up) they do the pre-order price promise so it’ll be maximum £35 or less if the price ever drops below that. Works well.

meh if I don’t get it on release day ill download it and still keep my collectors editon.
no shit off my shovel

Bit silly releasing on a Tuesday.
cam the man
I didn’t realise it was out on a Tuesday, just assumed it was the normal Thursday.
Shaggy2Dope
Most new releases over in the US have their games releases on Tuesday. Same for Blu-Ray/DVD releases and music as well.

Well my postie doesn’t usually arrive until 4pm so sod that.
Planning on being a saddo and going to GAME’s midnight opening at the minute…
hornet1990
And I thought midday for us was bad… Sheesh! Booked the afternoon off work so Tesco and RM had better deliver it on the Tuesday, or I will go postal! ;)
AdmiringWorm
I figured as much, I remember when GTA IV was released they had the same thing.
If the postal service goes as it usually goes I’ll have it on the release day at least.
Thechunkymunky
Amazon have had an estimated delivery of a day later since I preordered it so Iwas already looking at a delay. I want it on release day damnit!
Tuffcub
If only there were buildings packed full of games, say on the high street, that we could in to and get the game on the day of release. Radical concept, eh?
Jones81
you’re on to something there
Bilbo_bobbins
ha ha, that’s what I will do anyway.
Thechunkymunky
I would like to buy from the high street on release day but online wins because it’s cheaper. I actually preordered the collectors edition from amazon for full price, but it’s gotten cheaper for me since. £25 less is a decent saving for me! =)
ron_mcphatty
I’ll happily wait for my postie to pitch up around lunch time on the 17th, I might stick Heir Hunters or Extreme Couponing on, maybe go to the gym, have a fish finger sandwhich, read the paper… Who am I kidding, ill be watching the bloody trailers on a loop all morning! My GTA 4 arrived a day early but I didn’t realise, I just assumed I’d read the release date wrong. What a wally.
carson321
I remember getting San Andreas, I think it was 2 days early through my letterbox, more or less finished it by the time my friends got their hands on it!
