Microsoft have just confirmed through Major Nelson’s blog that the Xbox One will be releasing on the 22nd of November worldwide. That’s just a week after the PS3’s US release date on the 15th of November, and a week before the European PS4 release date of November 29th.
Will this release date make a difference? Does releasing a week after Sony, at least in the US, mean that Sony will be more successful with the PS4? It’s hard to say just yet, but the time between releases isn’t as big a gap as there was between the Xbox 360 and the PS3.
PS4 has the majority of European market, anyway, with the Xbox One delayed in many countries in Europe until March 2014, though the Xbox One may be able to do well in the UK, as it releases a week before the PS4 here.
The confirmed markets for November 22nd are as follows:Â Australia, Austria, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Mexico, New Zealand, Spain, UK, and USA.

The week difference won’t give either of them any real advantage but both Sony and Microsoft look set to do well regardless.
A friend of mine decided a bit late to hop on the preorder wagon and went the other day to preorder a PS4 but was told they weren’t taking any more preorders , so he preordered an xbox one. I can see more of this happening and it’s quite likely that XboxOne will catch up with PS4’s preorder figures by the time they launch, and regardless of how many units they can each get to retail on time. Let’s hope neither of them bit off more than they could chew! :)
