The Xbox One Release Date Is November 22nd

Microsoft have just confirmed through Major Nelson’s blog that the Xbox One will be releasing on the 22nd of November worldwide. That’s just a week after the PS3’s US release date on the 15th of November, and a week before the European PS4 release date of November 29th.

Will this release date make a difference? Does releasing a week after Sony, at least in the US, mean that Sony will be more successful with the PS4? It’s hard to say just yet, but the time between releases isn’t as big a gap as there was between the Xbox 360 and the PS3.

PS4 has the majority of European market, anyway, with the Xbox One delayed in many countries in Europe until March 2014, though the Xbox One may be able to do well in the UK, as it releases a week before the PS4 here.

The confirmed markets for November 22nd are as follows: Australia, Austria, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Mexico, New Zealand, Spain, UK, and USA.

  1. will wait for a bit on both… generation fatigue has come and gone. as has any disposable income i may have had.

  2. Both launching in their weaker markets first. Not sure it will make much difference as launch day stock will be minimal for both a best. Both will most likely be sold out out.

I think it will come down to who can get stock back on the shelves the quickest.

    • Yep. Stock levels will be as dry as an Arab’s sandal. The important thing is both the Xbox One and PS4 will launch before Black Friday.

      • The important question is:
Will MS be able to secure enough supply after selling out on the launch date to have significant stock available for Black Friday?
Sony has two weeks to restock stores in anticipation of this.

Isn’t Black Friday so important because products are discounted heavily and people are killing each other for a bargain?
Surely both consoles won’t recieve any discounts so there is absolutely no difference for people who buy the console a day or a week later…

      • Don’t see any discounts happening but the sheer number of units sold will be pretty effing serious.

Stock-wise, both companies will be looking to replenish the initial launch day stockpile (which has all but gone on pre-orders) every single day, I don’t doubt it.

I remember figures of 100,000 PS3s being shipped into Europe every week (a year or so ago) so it’ll be interesting if Sony (and Microsoft) bring in, maybe, 50,000 units per day for the dive working days. Actually, now I’m fascinated! Damn you and your interesting questions. :-)

      • I do what I can. ;)
Do they really replenish stock on a daily basis? I thought it would take days if not a week to get consoles back on the shelves after the initial batch sold out.

  3. Same release date as the 360 when it launched. I like how it’s all one day release worldwide rather than 2 separate dates

    • It is 2 separate dates.

MS’s second date is ‘sometime in 2014’

      • I know but I’m talking the specific countries they aimed for for now

      • MS aimed for all of them in November originally.

    • Trying telling people who live in Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Netherlands, Norway, Russia, Sweden and Switzerland that who won’t see the XBO until next year.

      • Lol you know if I worked for MS my answer for that would have been, you should have lived in a priority country then lol joking

      • I thought their answer was buy a 360.

      • Nope, it was #dealwithit

  4. Think PS4 is clear winner as it is releasing a week before……….Or more likely the release date makes no difference as everyone who wants their specific machine has pre-ordered and it’ll probably be weeks or months before Jo Bloggs can stroll into a store and buy it.

    • But the date doesn’t matter. There will be minimal systems on the shelf, most people who want one day 1 have pre ordered now. So the dates are really irrelevant, especially as they’re so close, as they’ll both sell out of their pre orders. I suppose it means that they can roll the next manufactured bunch out earlier, but by what, a week?

      • That’s what stonyk said. Anyone who wants one for launch has one preordered already. Plus more than likely anyone wanting one will choose the best console (for them) rather than the one that’s out sooner.

If it was a 6-12 month gap between each console that would make a difference. This is IMO just MS holding onto someinfo in order to reveal something to the media(like Sony with the box of the PS4). We’re all here talking about it, so it’s worked :-)

      • I read the start of his comment and then replied, sorry Stonyk! :3

  5. “worldwide.”

“The confirmed markets for November 22nd are as follows: Australia, Austria, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Mexico, New Zealand, Spain, UK, and USA.”

    lol

  6. Xbox’s marketing vice-president, Yusuf Mehdi, announced the firm’s rollout plans in a statement.

“The culmination of many years of listening to you, our fans, developing innovative technology, and partnering with the best game and entertainment partners in the industry has brought us to this point,” he said.

    Many weeks more like.

  7. PS4 FTW :D

Lets hope the right games are on the shelves in good quantity for launch day

Just not interested in Xbox none tho

  8. A week either side won’t make much of a difference I don’t think, people will have already made up their minds or will be swayed on the console prices.

    • As most of the day one sales will be pre-orders I don’t think it will make any difference.
What’s more important to MS and Sony is how many units they can get to market before Christmas.

      • I’m positive that both companies will have set aside stock for retail, and the limits were more for online pre-orders. I’m sure that stocks will be low, but it won’t be like there’s nothing on the shelves I don’t think.

      • That’s why I plan to go midnight release for the PS4. They’ll always save stock to put on the shelf, but it’ll be very limited.

  9. Great news. Going to be really interesting watching how this all pans out.

  10. Perfectly ok with this release. Earlier would have been better but the fact its out on a Friday will make booking time off work a bit easier. I may even be off on paternity leave by then!
