What We Played #121: Real Boxing, Killzone And Farming Simulator

What We Played

In desperation to be able to claim to have played something this week I’ve been wondering if Fantasy Premier League counts.  But even if it does with the international break in progress I’m really just waiting to find out who’ll break their legs before making any transfers next week so not really actively playing.  Oh and I’ve completed a couple of Guardian quick crosswords.

Now back from his Hawaiian jaunt Tuffcub reports that when he’d had enough sun and sea the “rather good” Assassin’s Creed Liberation, the “just annoying” Candy Crush Saga and The Walking Dead on PlayStation Vita were adequate entertainment though the latter seems to have brought out his need to torment young girls.

It’s his pile of shame that’s kept him busy since his return to these sunny isles (sorry, that was yesterday) to these fog-bound and rain swept shores with the “dull” God of War 3, Dead Space 3 and an “awful lot of Killzone 3, normally around 3am in the morning when my bloody jet lag decides I should be fully awake”.

[drop2]He’s also “really, really liking ploughing through Catherine” (I think he means the game) and has tried the “quite good” Killzone Mercenary beta in which he “can’t get the hang of using the touchscreen to run”. [Perhaps because you don’t use the screen for that – Blair]

Ploughing brings us neatly to Aran who combined his video gaming with the harrowing experience of trying to run a farm in Farming Simulator.  Check his review for details of why small cars are lethal to tractors which reminds me of The Hunter, starring Steve McQueen, a film featuring the only car chase involving a combine harvester that I’ve ever come across.

DanToo has been playing more Real Boxing even though his review is complete and published.  “It really is a good game”, he tells me before adding, “loving the intense, quick fights. Plug my review please haha!”  Any time one of us continues playing a game after having had to sprint through it for our review is a pretty good recommendation.

Blair’s been playing the “let’s forget to respond to Greg’s emails” game once again, so is adding this section in while editing, and talking about himself in the third-person, which is a rather strange feeling. He’s actually been playing Killzone: Mercenary, which he thought was “incredible” for a Vita title, scoring it 10/10 in his review. He’s also been playing Cut the Rope on 3DS, which is a good distraction.

Rayman Legends has proved to be a nice break from reviewing games for Blair, even if he can’t stop his brain analysing it. And, finally, he’s played some of The Wind Waker HD, though not as much as he would like to have (all of it, twice), having only reached Dragon Roost Island. The embargo isn’t quite up on that, so he can’t talk about the game in full yet, unless he’s referring to the GameCube original, which was amazing.

So not too much gaming going on ’round these ‘ere parts this week, how’s it where you are?

  1. I’ve bought Everybody’s Golf for the Vita in the PSN sale and it is quite addictive. Ordered GRID 2 on the back of the anticipated Destruction Derby mode DLC due out soon… although not seen much about it?!

  2. Mainly The Last of Us on my first (of two) Survivor playthroughs. Just got past the sewer section which I really like. I’m doing the collectables which is a bit of a drag, but it should make my final playthrough more enjoyable!

Played a bit of Blops 2 at the weekend. I want to enjoy it but the spawning always frustrates me so I never end up playing for more than an hour or so at a time.

I also played a fair bit of The Darkness II with McProley as he’s going for the platinum. Although the Vendettas/Hit List trophies can be obtained solo, it was nice to play some of the co-op specific missions which can’t be accessed solo. It’s a great game and I imagine a lot of fun 4-player co-op on the tougher difficulties. Love the characters!

Killzone arrived this morning so I shall fire that up this evening when I get in from work. Will probably start my “bastard” playthrough of The Walking Dead (on Vita) on my lunch break today.

    • Out of curiosity, you know in TLOU you can just play survivor+ without having play survivor first or you just love the game that much lol

      • Yeah, there’s a glitch isn’t there? I love the game so I’d like to do it legit. You can tell if people have used the glitch as their Survivor and Survivor+ trophies will be timed just seconds apart. ;)

  3. Thinking back I’m not sure I played anything this week aside from a couple of hours of BLOPS2 over the weekend – double weapon XP ftw.
Oh, I also dusted off my N64 and played a few matches on WWF No Mercy last night while waiting for a Linux install to complete on a work laptop.

  4. Gave up on Castlevania, so finished Infamous 2 which I’d abandoned half way through for some reason back when it came out. I’ve now started Mini Ninjas. Don’t even know where this game came from. It might not even be mine, lol! Anyway, I’d never given it a go, so will see if it’s any good.

    • Mini Ninjas is a great game, if a little basic. But charming.

      • Agreed, Mini Ninjas is a great game.

  5. Been playing spec ops: The Line, AMAZING play through the hardest mode for platinum, if there was a trophy for how many deaths you can get for peaking your head, I would be king.

    Also Killzone Mercenary here boom!

    • Oh and the walking dead vita.

  6. Been having a mainly fighter week with DOA5, SFxTK and UMVC3 in the Vita sale. With a tiny bit of Hotline Miami, Retro City Rampage, Knytt, Died alot at Spelunky, Soul Sacrifice and Ragnarok Odyssey. O and I died even more at multiplayer Resistance and the Killzone beta!!

  7. FF14 which im loving! bit of Hitman Absolution, Everybodys Golf (agree with tony up top, addictive) and last but not least – Walking Dead on the Vita. I love it, I tried the PS3 demo when it was released but never got around to it, then there was wind of a Vita version so even though the Mrs had it on the Xbox, I decided to wait. Well worth it!

  8. Spelunky, AC: Revelations and Rayman Legends for me.

  9. Platinumed Saints Row 4 last Sunday.
Ploughed through the Yakuza 3 story (I’ve already played 4 and Dead Souls so I know that anything other than just the story is a massive time sink).
Started playing Diablo 3, which is great fun.
The usual daily dose of Animal Crossing … finally have the last store upgrade completed.
I can’t remember if I put this in last weeks WWP or not but I 100%ed Bit Trip Runner 2 … some of the later levels on hard are just downright nasty to get a perfect on.
At this particular moment I’m playing through Castle of Illusion, just about to start the last world.

  10. I played rusian roulette with my new Glock.
