A Grand Theft Auto VÂ build properties file has leaked online, and with it, ignited new rumours of a possible next-gen release.
The code, which was posted to Reddit – and has since been removed by legal request – mentions PS3 and 360, as well as both PC and Orbis builds of the game. Orbis, you may recall, was the pre-release codename for Sony’s PlayStation 4, and the name the OS used on PS4 development kits. We’ve seen it, and it looks legitimate, though obviously won’t be posting it here.
This new discovery fuels the fire of a PS4 release, with Amazon recently listing the title, and Sony UK tweeting, and subsequently retracting, similar sentiments.
Of course, whilst I’m not saying it wont happen eventually, a game’s build XML is far from conclusive proof – and the file in question is likely to be a generic configurations script used by the studio. Debunking theories further, the file makes no reference to Xbox One, despite apparently being ripped from an Xbox 360 release. If a next-gen build is on its way, it would undoubtedly hit Microsoft’s platform too.
Grand Theft Auto V officially released for PS3 and Xbox 360 this morning. You can read our extensive review of the game here.

I suspect we’ll see a next gen release. I just hope there is a cheap upgrade option (as with CoD etc) and that our MP levels and stats are carried over, otherwise I probably won’t bother.

I predict this time next year. The install base will make it worth releasing then… Alongside the PC version.
The 3 full HD platforms released together will streamline production.

Would it undoubtedly hit xbox one though? Sony have been hinting at a pally relationship with Rockstar for a while. Maybe a next gen PC/PS4 exclusive is on the cards.

That’s what I was thinking… No mention of Xbox One (or Durango as it was known before it got that name)

It would be a big coup for Sony.

Sounds like it may not be coming to xbone. Perhaps rockstar have seen the xbone preorder numbers and decided not to bother.

Of course it’s coming to PS4/X1. Rockstar are keeping quiet at the minute because they want people to buy it now and (maybe) buy it again for next gen consoles. I spoke to a guy in GAME the other day and he said people haven’t been pre-ordering the big games like they usually do because they aren’t sure if they want them on next gen or current gen. I know I’m waiting for PS4 versions of AC4 and COD Ghosts. Rockstar are on the ball. Take away choice and you’re just going to go with what’s available.

Plot twist! Sony have next gen exclusivity! :P

It’ll come to the next gen, but it’s perfectly normal for there to be code for different platforms in an engine. The engine is likely being used to develop a next gen title by another Rockstar studio, so it’s no surprise. Most PC games come with lots of unused code from console platforms.
