Thief producer Stephane Roy has been discussing the differences between the PS3 and PS4 versions of the game over on the U.S. PlayStation Blog. He has said that there are “multiple components” to these differences including AI, audio and art.
“We want to take advantage of as many new, next-gen features as possible, and that includes the new DualShock controller,” commented Stephane.
The light bar on the Dualshock 4 will be used to simulate the Light Gem in the in-game UI, so if you play the game in the dark your control will glow and indicate if the protagonist, Garrett, is hiding in the shadows.
The touchpad will be used for menu navigation and “makes for a more intuitive way to perform various actions, like navigating the map or selecting weapons,” whilst the motion control sensors are used for aiming your bow, “The level of accuracy we get with it is really impressive,” said Stephane.
The game will also make full use of the share button and allow you to send videos of your most stealthy takedowns.
It was also revealed that although the game will swap to a third person view for a navigation segment or performing take downs, the majority of the gameplay will be in first person.
Thief is scheduled to launch on February 25th, 2014.
