PS4 Games To Have £60 Suggested Retail Price

The SRP of certain PS4 games – including DriveClub and Killzone: Shadow Fall – will be £59.99, though Knack will be slightly cheaper at £54.99.

It’s no surprise that the retail price point will be a bit higher than the current generation (FIFA 14 on PS3, for example, has an RRP of £54.99), though what is surprising is that Sony aren’t selling first-party exclusives for a bit less. It truly seems that Sony will be looking to make their money from the games rather than the hardware, as they previously stated.

It’s not a massive deal, as although retailers such as GAME will sell the games for at least £55 at launch, the prices will certainly realign with the current £40-45 set by retailers for PS3 games in the future.

It’s something that happens with every console generation – even the Wii U’s games were around this mark at launch – but don’t expect to be getting your PS4 games as cheap as their PS3 counterparts just yet.

This makes the Call of Duty and Battlefield 4 £10 upgrades seem all the more tantalising, as you’ll actually be saving money as well as getting the game on two platforms.

Sony also re-confirmed the £54.99 price point of the DualShock 4 and PS4 Camera, as well as pricing the stand and charging unit at £15.99 and £24.99 respectively.

So, it seems as though that Killzone mega bundle that they’ve just announced could actually offer savings of around £100, rather than £70-80.

Thanks, STN

  1. I really hope they come down in price a bit, it’s probably just the retailers trying to sting early adopters as they know they won’t have anything to play.

  2. With the retail competition out there i doubt the games will actually sell at RRP. £45 I think is a reasonable price for next gen games.

  3. £80 on PSN if they keep the same mark-up from this gen?

    • There is no PSN markup. You have been fooled by the usual hype.

There IS a disparity thou. And this is brought about by brick and motar stores being more dynamic with their pricing. As a game gets older it gets cheaper in the physical stores, this isn’t the case on PSN, it tends to make much larger, less frequent drops in price. £40 to £20 for example.

      • Denial much? Lol

      • The fact is the rrp’s are £40-£50 maximum but psn prices are often £58. Deny that.

  4. As a neutral to next-gen I can honestly say that if this was the same news about Xbox One at this time the comments would be drastically different. What I’ve noticed is a huge trend of hypocrits on both sides, but the Sony side of things is absolutely ridiculous everything is terrible on Xbox One until the same thing is announced for PS4 then its acceptable. What I will say about MS fans is they would actually dispute these prices in the comments and not just bend over and ready the vaseline. Im a PC gamer primarily but the Xbox One is looking appealing for console gaming, the PS4 community at the moment is pathetic and quite honestly I dont care for them nor do I respect the majority Ive seen simply for the arrogance they seem to display. This isnt aimed at all Sony fans I realize there are people out there who just love Sony titles and actually compliment an Xbox excusive when they feel credit is due, but £60 for a game is absolutely outrageous in todays economy for the majority of the gaming population and if Sony fans werent so hellbent on worrying more about the competition they would realize this instead of acting blindly.

    • Read the first comment…

    • Read the 3rd paragraph too.
The year is 2013… People pay £40 a month on their mobile phones, £500 for an iPad, £30 a month for broadband etc… The list goes on. Basically, I understand people haven’t got a lot of money but in comparison, £60 (more than likely £40-50) is in no way an outrageous price for a game which can potentially give months of entertainment. If I go to the pub tonight with a few mates after a hard day at work I’ll probably spend close to £50. All I’ll have to show for that is a sore head & glazed eyes in the morning.

    • Good points. I did find it odd how the lower rrp for X1 games wasn’t mentioned. Didn’t want to post it though as I knew I’d get loads of flak for it.

      • There is no lower RRP, that too is another Microsoft spewed myth. They will be identically priced.

Sorry yet again for the deluded life you live.

      • Microsoft have already confirmed the rrp is staying at £50! Jesus Christ man give up! I’ve never known such a Sony fanboy as you. Absolutely nothing is their fault, talk about deluded. Was the psn hack Microsofts fault? Store maintenance downtime? Faulty store updates?

  5. For many hours of entertainment, £60 isn’t an issue really. I pay the same to Sky each month as I’m sure many of you do too?
Plus I clearly remember paying similar amounts for SNES cartridges back in the day not to mention £100 for a Japanese copy of Streetfighter 2 ;)

  6. Gamers have a higher expectation of their games, these gamers need hollywood budgets to make, of course the prices will rise.

    There is also inflation. A £40 game in 2005 when the PS3 launched in2005 is £50 in today’s money…

  7. £60 not bad at all really also games have been £40-£60 since as far back as the Snes Megadrive days.

  8. It’s not all that drastic really seeing as RRP for a lot of PS3 new releases nowadays is usually over 50 quid and most if not all sell for less than £40 at release.
The only real downside as some have mentioned is the digital release pricing which could see some top sellers pushing close to the 80/90 quid mark……Foxtrot Oscar to that scenario!!

  9. OUCH! How come we end up with an increase, yet the NA market get their games for $60 the same as this gen?? How many people will just keep their PS3 & eat up the free games on PS+ for their PS4? I can think of one.
The only reason I can think of for this is that the Digital copies will be lower priced, paving the way for a disc less solution down the line?

    • US prices never include sales tax as it varies between states. Uk prices include taxes of 20%

    • Yay, disc-less future… even though its more suited for handhelds.

  10. I think Driveclub and Resogun will see me through the first month or so, along with my PS3 backlog
