First The Last Of Us DLC Pack Detailed

Naughty Dog have taken to the PS Blog to reveal exactly what’s included in the Season Pass for the last of us. While we knew there would be two multiplayer expansions and a chunk of story-based single player DLC, we didn’t know what these would include, and while that may ring true for the latter two pieces of content still, they’ve given us some insight into the Abandoned Territories Map Pack.

This is naturally multiplayer exclusive, and contains a Suburbs map with a “dynamic dust storm” at its heart, a “layered map of an overgrown urban environment with wild giraffes in the background” named Bus Depot, a third arena – Hometown – with “a dark, eerie, moonlit, environment” perfect for stealth and finally the Bookstore setting, which includes “a stacked, bi-level layout adding a highly unique dose of vertical gameplay”.

I find these quite underwhelming, considering that I’ve squeezed all the fun I could out of the few multiplayer modes to be found, but they’ll be available on the 16th of October.

What’s more is that the single player story DLC will include a new character that they’ve been casting, and are starting performance capture next week. There’s no word on whether Joel or Ellie will return – or if it’ll be a prequel – but they describe it as “an ambitious story with strong ties into the narrative” of the game. This should see release in December or January.

There’s little news on the third DLC pack, other than that they’re still working out the details and that it’ll arrive in the first half of 2014. Hopefully that’s more than just another map pack – co-op, perhaps?

They’re also adding over 60 new head items into the game, including a nightmare mask and pigskin hat which will be free for all Season Pass holders.

At £15.99, this will save you over 75% on the total price on buying the DLC individually.

  1. That’s rubbish. All that hype for nothing :(

    • Yeah, it’s really annoying after those Twitter pictures and hype with yesterday’s date. I’ve had more interesting shits.

  2. The saving must surely be so big only due to the 60 head items?

Anyway, this is rather underwhelming news. More maps? Who would have thought? I also wonder how they will allow you to access these new maps – hopefully with dedicated playlists, otherwise everyone in the lobby will need to have the DLC for you to play them. After having played 24 weeks for the two factions, I can’t seem me playing this anymore unless there are new trophies…although I hope they are not of the same difficulty as some of the Uncharted MP trophies, otherwise I won’t even attempt them/play it at all.

    • Another thing, these seem like they are all MP maps based on locations from the original campaign. Nothing worse than held-back content released as DLC.

Since the seasons in the game jump at times, they could easily have been more imaginative with the maps. At least they each seem to offer something unique, (albeit just giraffes is one).

  3. Thats a shame cos if everything goes to plan I’ll be on the PS4 by December & can’t see myself switching back to the PS3 for a bit of DLC.

  4. Huge disappointment. Was hoping to get the single player DLC done before getting the PS4

  5. Underwhelmed … that is all
Still, at least someone still creates a game THEN creates DLC

  6. I bet the new character is Ish.

    • I was thinking the same, or rather hoping the same!

  7. Glad to hear the single player DLC is still on the way, but immensely underwhelmed to hear the forthcoming drop is going to be a map pack. The Multiplayer is brilliant fun, but that story was something else entirely.

  8. meh. The story & gameplay was nowhere near what i was hoping it to be, so much that i never bothered with multiplayer. im glad i didnt pay for this game, so DLC? meh. to little too late.

    • have to agree mate.the story is so predictable.as it unfolds you can nigh on predict the next part of it.
that said the chemistry between the characters is what makes this game.
3 parts in the story had me choked.
      multi is not for me..
i dabbled a little on uncharted and couldn’t see the appeal so i avoided the multi on this..
