There have plenty of issues with accessing GTA Online today and yesterday, most noticeably on the PS3 side of things. Rockstar have issued an update on all of these difficulties, explaining what they’ve fixed and what is yet to be done.
It seems as though they’ve resolved some of the PSN limitations which were essentially only allowing a specific number of concurrent users into the game, with presumably hundreds of thousands or millions trying to gain access. This was preventing people from accessing the online component altogether, but that issue has now been resolved.
There’s also an issue – which I’ve experienced thrice now – where the game doesn’t allow you to progress beyond the tutorial, losing your customised character and data in the progress. Rockstar are still working on this one to solve it “as soon as possible”.
Even if you do get beyond the tutorial, you might find that you lose some progress when you quit out. Again, Rockstar are looking into this. For the moment, they’ve disabled the purchasable cash packs and promise to iron out all the issues as soon as possible.

While all of this is going on, they arent too busy to patch up ALL of the money & collectible exploits in the game! I have lost tons of respect for these cash grabbers in the past 5 years, first the horrible game they tried to call GTA 4, then the broken mess that was RDR & to a lesser extent (from what im told) MP3, & now this ? They conduct themselves as tho, they are new at making games. I really hope they go above & beyond to make up 4 this. That is if they can pull themselves away from spending all our money.

So if people are buying, thus willingly giving them their cash, where’s their incentive to improve? They can only spend your cash if you’ve given it to them. Fool me once, fool me twice. But 4 times?
Love how others games get crucified if their online doesn’t work on launch but rockstar games get a free pass. How well are GTA 4 and 5 scored on metacritic? And how much of a mess have their online been? Imagine if that was Saints Row or Infamous or a game by any other dev!

I gave no impressions as to what I paid for. I simply listed the games they’ve put out in 5 years, & how they all are a mess in 1 way or another. I only payed for GTA IV. I got RDR & GTA V for free, & Max Payne I had no intrest in.
Now that Online is “fixed” I cant even get to the first Race, the car that im supposed to get in just disappears in front of me & I just stand there while more players join me, then eventually walk away until i get bored & quit game . I do keep getting $ for nothing somehow tho.

Great to read that they have acknowledged the problems, although I think that the game has other online issues than just how many people are accessing the servers.
It’ll be interesting to see if they can get the online game working fully and I really hope that they can because at the moment that billion dollar dropped bollock needs picking up off the floor quicksharp!

I’m glad I decided to leave the MP alone for a while at first, with my gaming time often limit I would have been rather frustrated to lose progress, no matter how small.
The worrying thing for me is this current gen culture of releasing things before they are finished. Admittedly they can’t do much about traffic volume, and they said beforehand that they were subsequently going to provide more servers, but I can’t help but feel some of these issues are not traffic related – losing progress, not getting passed tutorials, system crashes. Not good.

It’s definately more than server traffic related, whether you are setting up a private lobby to then invite friends or playing the solo roam it wouldn’t let you in the lobby stating “waiting for players” before promply freezing…WTF? Traffic? nah!

To be fair to Rockstar the unpatched GTA V single player is sublime and really impressed me purely because it hasn’t been launched broken. With Online they’ve made promises they can’t keep, owned up to it in hope of leniency and come up against The Unforgiving Internets which doesn’t forgive :)

Agreed ron the single player game has been/still is fantastic but I’m convinced that here are more inborn problems with the online than just server traffic overload and I mean really fundamental issues!

It’s hard to be sympathetic to RockStar when they’ve made so much money, and for £40 you’d expect something to work properly ;)
Anyway, it’s not a major issue for me, I’ve been clearing the backlog of games instead!

Given the problems now, and the fact the game has already been released, I don’t think it will EVER work. This game will not be platinum’able, and I am certainly not holding my breath for this. Loving Single player though.

I’ve been playing since last night. I’ve been able to join lobbies with friends too without any disconnects/crashes. Just be patient, it will get ironed out eventually.
If anyone is having trouble, this worked for me.
– Start game into single player
– From the online tab choose character selection
– Delete character(it’ll be corrupt), make new character
This helped me get through to the first race tutorial.

That’s worth a go, I’ll try anything to get that introductory race done rather than hanging around a car park! Although I have tried both methods of booting into single and multiplayer from the load up.

Can’t people just find something else to do for a couple of days? Take the strain off the servers and Rockstar. I’m sure it’ll be fixed soon enough.
I despair at the mentality of the gaming community sometimes. Most of the ranting seems to be written by people too young to be playing the game anyway.

I’m sorry but why don’t people deserve to rant? Yes people can find something else to do for a few days but when Rockstar had two weeks to sort out after launch it’s just really disappointing to see these issues.
Personally I’m annoyed that some people are able to progress and get the better weapons/cars/apartments while I have to catch up one day. I’ve already had to endure that god awful character creator 6 times due to them deleting themselves and I just want to play a major chunk of a game I’ve paid good money for.
Just because it’s a ‘game’ doesn’t make it any less important than any other product. I’ve be pretty pissed if my TV that I’ve bought doesn’t do all it’s advertised features so this is non different in that respect.
Also just so you know I’m 28 and fancy playing after a long days work.

People have been waiting 2 weeks and 2 days in reality and in some cases are still waiting. I’ve given up on it for now anyway, been trying occasionally throughout the day to get online but no luck, it just goes into the continuous loading loop every time, weird as I know a lot of people are getting into lobbies etc.
Anyway single player it was, just the knife stunts to do now for 100%, but finding the military jet a handful might have to switch to the small stunt plane!
