Insomniac: Sunset Overdrive Will Remain Xbox One Exclusive

I think Insomniac have made it pretty clear that Sunset Overdrive was to be an Xbox One exclusive but this has not stopped fans from requesting the game go multi-platform and posting a petition for the change on the Insomniac forums.

The thread was quickly locked, the petition removed and a rather sharp message was posted beneath.

Sunset Overdrive is and will be exclusive to the Xbox One.

Petitions will not change that. We have a partner in Microsoft, that we are happy with for this title. That doesn’t mean we can’t and won’t work with other publishers (see Into the Nexus).

We realize not everyone is happy it’s exclusive. We hope the game speaks for itself though and the console becomes a nonissue.

Thanks.

I am not entirely sure how the console can become a non-issue* when the game is not on the console you happen to own but the message is clear: Sunset Overdrive is Xbox One exclusive and any mention of multi-platform shenanigans will be shot down fast than you can say “My, that looks suspiciously like Microsoft saw the petition and demanded it was removed.”

*Unless that is a hint the game is going multiplatform. Hey maybe I’ve stumbled on something! Wait a minute… why are there men setting up a sniper rifle on the roof opposite my office? Wha-

  1. I’m not buying an Xbox One for Sunset Overdrive, so no Insomniac it’s not a “nonissue”, but frankly games from Insomniac lately has been a disappointment, I hope Into the Nexus is not another.

  2. Any reason as to why there’s a picture of a PS4 on the thread link? :)

  3. Not hugely bothered, Fuse was dire & of late, Insomiacs output has left a bit to be desired. A far cry from RfoM & R2 which I wholly enjoyed.

  4. I think the only people that will suffer from this exclusive deal will be Insomniac, much as Sega will with the Wii U / Sonic thing….

    • I agree. Insomniacs Games looks interesting not that I’ve seen much beyond their teaser. Certainly buying and xbone for one. Sonic looks great and still not buyig a wiiu for that either

  5. Microsoft’s $$$$$ have ensured the contract is in concrete that it’s a XBone exclusive.

Not to worry, let it be an expensive lesson to other publishers that think it’s a bright idea to sign up to exclusivity agreements, as it can all come crashing down around them if they are locked into a console that has tanked.

  6. If Titanfall isn’t enough to make me get a XBox One, Sunset Overdrive certainly isn’t going to influence me. Loved the Resistance games but the way they changed Fuse (for the worse imo) lost them a lot of respect in my eyes.

  7. Good it looks pants anyway

  8. Well, we got a few good games from them along the way although sadly no proper J&D game this gen, perhaps we’ll see one of those on PS4.

    • Oops, i always get them and ND confused when it comes to the two platformers. :/

  9. They don’t seem to be having much luck these days… two awful R&C games that didn’t sell and the less we say about Fuse the better. I hope they can turn things around with Sunset Overdrive and R&C Into the Nexus. Insomniac used to be my favourite developer but they have become the M Night Shyamalan of the games industry – starting off great but getting worse and worse with each new release. It seems like they’re still pissed at Sony for failing to promote Resistance 3. Can’t blame them though, Resistance 3 was a great game.

  10. This really is no loss. It looks good, but like most people say their output lately is at best not very good by todays standard. They should find a good home on xbone.
