Sony hint that a new Ratchet & Clank game is on the cards

Sony Interactive Entertainment chairman Shawn Layden has spoken to The Hollywood Reporter in regards to Sony’s recent acquisition of Spider-Man developer Insomniac Games, during which he revealed the fate of two franchises.

He was asked what the deal means for Sunset Overdrive, a game developed by Insomniac but only resale on Xbox One.

“That was a great experience for Insomniac, and they learned a lot through that,” commented Shawn. “As far as the IP itself, we really haven’t turned over the files on that one to see what that actually means, to be honest.”

Although Microsoft published the game Insomniac own the IP, and thanks to the recent deal that means Sony now own a game published exclusively on Xbox One. However, it’s an additional comment from Shawn that will please fans of a certain furry rodent and his robotic sidekick.

“We like what they’ve [Insomniac] been doing in the Spider-Man franchise, and things like Ratchet & Clank are certainly vital series in the present and future. That’s what we’re concentrating on,” he added.

Obviously we’re going to get a new Spider-Man game because it was such a huge hit with over nine million copies sold, but thew news that Ratchet & Clank are a “vital series in the present and future” suggests that we haven’t seen the last of the platform hopping duo.

Later in the interview Shawn explains that if Insomniac have ideas for a new Ip then Sony would welcome them.

“All the studios at Worldwide Studios manage their franchise plans and manage their IP in a way they see best,” he said. “Insomniac will be no different in that way. We’ll look at what they walk into the fold with. If they have ideas around new game concepts, which every team does, we will look forward with great anticipation to what the future brings.”

The last Ratchet & Clank was a masterpiece and scored a ultra rare 10/10 from us, you can read the review here.
