A closed beta test for Honkai: Nexus Anima will kick off on 9th July across PC, iOS and Android, as HoYoverse build up to the latest entry in the mobile RPG series, now with more of a creature-collecting aspect to the adventure.

You can sign up for the test on the official site

The ‘Evolution Test’ will be a limited closed beta with a full data wipe at the end of it, but those that take part will be able to get a good look at this new direction for the Honkai series. Neatly dodging comparisons to Pokémon or Palworld (well, not really), HoYoverse describe this as a creature-collecting adventure strategy game.

Honkai Nexus Anima combat

The Nexus in the title refest to the bonds between opposing Aspects, such as love and hate, reality and illusion. These were shattered by the Sundering, releasing power across the world in the form of Anima. People can now find Anima, bond with them, and harness their Aspects in various ways. One of those ways is in battle with an interesting top-down view and playing abilities shown in the gameplay trailer.

At the start of the test, you’ll be a plane-hopping traveler who’s escaped captivity and looks to explore the world from Lia, the quiet town in the Reality Plane. Exploring the Planes, you will come across Anima and evolutions that transform and make them stronger as their bonds grow with the player.

Away from battle, you can explore the town, hang out with your Anima, take selfies, surf on watery Anima, and potentially come across rare Chromatic Anima.

The game will naturally feature ties back to other Honkai games, but there’s also new character such as Nanafey, Bai Mei, and Olympia to cross paths with, taking the story forward as you do so.
