Videos have landed on the web showing the PS4 and Xbox One versions of Battlefield 4, confirming that the PS4 version does indeed run at a resolution of 1600×900, while the Xbox One version is just 1280×720. Digital Foundry confirm that’s a fifty percent increase in pixels overall, which is quite huge.
It’s clear that the PS4 version is better here, though they’re reporting that the software-based upscaling to 1080p leaves the PS4 version with a less crisp looking game, though one with better anti-aliasing
The video below, again from Digital Foundry, shows the difference between the versions. It’s not huge from what we’ve seen, but the Xbox One version takes hits in the form of resolution and framerate.
If that video isn’t the comparison you need, then you can take a look at two separate videos from the PS4 and Xbox One versions of the games, posted by Jackfrags.
Still, it’s quite a good looking game on both consoles, isn’t it? Just a tad better on the PS4.

I disagree, it doesn’t look any better from one console to another, the difference I noticed was the bone is darker than the 4 & the 4 is lighter but besides that the game is identical

If i’m not mistaken, where you will find the biggest difference with the resolution would be on the background details. Like buildings, wires, etc, anything that isn’t close to your character.
If you go to the Source on the first ‘Launch Comparison Tool’ and if check even the nearest crane you can see that there is a difference.
But well, no one will notice that while playing so it’s not really a huge turnoff or a bad thing.

Agreed. I noticed miner difference in this. Seagull part and the part with the helicopter with dust flying was noticeable. Although minor now
will this gap get larger over time. Not too sure on this but the use of black is to hide low res textures? 0:50 you can barely see the dudes face in front of you or the object he is holding.
p9ul
Biggest difference I saw was around 4:14 with the electrical pylons & cables.
There’s very little in it – the PS4 was brighter lit but that’s all down to personal taste as I’m sure you can adjust that to your liking.
irnmunkey
Its so close. The PS4 may be higher res but to me it looks less detailed/soft. Xbox looks sharper and some textures look more detailed. I think this all might just come down to quality of scaler as both are being upscaled to 1080p. I think the Xbox scaler must be better.
Truth is the difference is negligible and I doubt that when playing at full speed you’ll be hard pressed to notice.
just get the machine you want people they will both have different and great games.

Ps4 version does seem to look a little more natural to me but i do like the ‘gamey’ sharpness and colour of the bones version.
Fair to say that without being hands on theres not alot to see here.
Kennykazey
If you like the loss of colour detail, you can always change your TV settings.
OneShotWook
Not a buy for me Ken as i’m picking up Killzone and i’m not a huge fps fan anyway.Although i appreciate the dig i’m just chucking opinion out on the video as i saw it.

Whoa the xbone subtitles come on the screen about 2 seconds later. That’s it, fuck Xbox, Microsoft are so shit how can they do this? It’s EA as well, Sony must have some sort of subtitle exclusivity agreement with them. Ps4 rules man, quicker subtitles!
lambchop
I’ve read that the PS4 subtitles are quicker, but are not correct, as MS has a timed deal on the correct subtitles. On PS4 for 6 months you have make to do with subtitles from 70’s series George and Mildred….

PS4 looks much nicer IMO. Xbox might look more crisp but the detail and shadows look no where near as good.
Kennykazey
I just read the article on Digital Foundry, the PS4 has a more advanced form of ambient-occlusion adding more fine shadow detail.
Bilbo_bobbins
That might be it, I have no idea on names for certain things, all I see is that PS4 version looks much nicer overall. I’ll have a look at that article, cheers.

I have noticed (this gen and next) that DF always makes the Playstation look washed out. I can tell you, there’ll be a big difference at home on your TV. The PS4 is a well ahead, but it’s a third party game and it’s the first out of the gate. The gap will close, but first party PS4 games will blow the XBox away.
Bilbo_bobbins
you can kind of see that already with Killzone, it looks absolutely amazing graphically compared to BF4 and other games shown off so far.
stonyk
I want to notice a difference to make all this staring at the screen worthwhile but I really cannot see it. Look exactly the same to me. But is that because I’m watching in a low definition video in a tiny window? Would the only real way to notice a difference be to watch side by side on 2 large screen tv’s?

PS4 looks much better.
It looks like the PS4 will get native 1080p games a lot sooner than XB1.
blarty
The key thing here, isn’t the graphics themselves but that this represents, for all the talk of balance etc from MS,that the PS4 is able to push out significantly more pixels and at generally a better framerates than the lower resolution XB1 without sacrificing visual effects – this shows that there is extra grunt in the PS4 that the XB1 isn’t yet approaching (time will tell of course with the likes of Forza 5, and as devs get more used to programming around the eSRAM).
lambchop
Both look pretty good generally. But Xbone does look highly dodgy in places.
