Dead Rising 3 Runs At 720P 30FPS

It has been confirmed that Xbox One launch title Dead Rising 3 runs at 720P and only 30 frames per second.

Eurogamer spoke to Josh Bridge, Executive Producer at Capcom Vancouver and he announced “we’re a 720p game locked at 30fps”.

“When we first started there was no platform, it was PC and we were just targeting next-gen, and 1080, even before then we thought it’d be prohibitive to even consider that, because essentially you have to do everything twice, which is just massive when you think of it,” he added.

“It’s more important that the end image looks awesome – look at how much stuff is on screen, that’s always been a Dead Rising sort of brand. That still looks really good, and that’s been our goal. I hope it shows – just look at how much insane stuff is going on screen.”

Kinect Sports Rivals has been confirmed to run at 1080p/30fps, Ryse: Son of Rome at 900p/30fps whilst Forza Motorsport 5 manages that elusive 1080p/60fps.

  1. Like most people I ‘was’ getting bored of these stories. That’s ’til I bought a new Full HD LED monitor to use my PS4 on instead of my HD ready TV.
Now I realise there’s quite a big difference between 720 & 1080 and to be fair, the amount of time full HD TVs have been on the market, with a new generation console I think it goes without saying that games should be 1080.
I would be pretty gutted if I bought this monitor for an Xbone then realising most games at release will probably be upscaled.
I was going to moan about BF4 on the PS4 being 900 but I haven’t seen anything running at that resolution so I can’t really comment.

  2. Lame. PS3 does 720p 30fps right now.

  3. Think folks need to bear in mind that these ‘super consoles’ not quite living up to expectations is honestly nothing new.Depends on just how far back you really want to go but…..

The Megadrive, fantastic machine, i bought mine on the strength of Streets Of Rage, Revenge Of Shinobi, Strider etc, it really felt like the gap between the arcades and the home formats had been reduced to a wafer thin slice, but…with clever coding, my old, 8 bit Atari 800XL could display 256 colours on screen, my MD at that time could’nt and as for my MCD, even with clever coding there, i saw developers boasting of 64 colours on screen and think only Eternal Champions S.E used 256 colours, so it had it’s drawbacks. The SNES beat MD hands down in terms of colour and soundchip, Mode 7 gubbins etc, but let down by a weedy CPU, which restricted just what could be done with Mode 7 etc hence DSP chips on carts etc.

The 3DO cheated at resolution-hardware upscaled image before outputting to TV, streamed data off CD, the PS1 warped polygons, had to draw 2D as polygons in some games as it was weaker there than Saturn, the PS2 did not render 66 million polygons, had far less video Ram than the Dreamcast, games like Ico, MGS3:Snake eater etc followed the 3DO route of upscaling image before outputting to TV etc etc.

How much were we gamers paying back then for the hardware and games? how soon was our platform made to feel outdated by..’The Next Big Thing’…(N64 replacing PS1, 3DO M2 to replace N64 in terms of the most powerful, Dreamcast beating M2 hands down, PS2 slaughtering DC on paper etc etc).

Welcome to the industry, please clench your backside and have your credit card details at the ready as we expect you to keep paying and paying and paying…

Maybe you’ll think you’ll skip the consoles this generation, get a ninja death machine PC, that’ll run the games in the numbers that’d make a console owner weep bitter, salty tears openly…fantastic, but just how many games will be:optimised for your set up? how many will be dodgy console ports? how long before you really need to upgrade your CPU, about time you added more Ram, that CPU,looking a bit creaky now is’nt it? etc and all because it’s the accepted route PC gaming takes.

This generation is no different from those before it, i’ve yet to hear Hideo K. pop up and say how bitterly dissapointed he was by PS4 (as he did PS2) and how he and his team dread going into work each day, or Oddworld developer saying he’s leaving platform X to go to platform Y (Left PS2 for Xbox) or Jez san to pop up, praise platform A (Dreamcast) annouce he’s making best game ever (Red Dog) and when it bombs, slag platform A, say he’s going to platform B,(PS2) as it’s far more powerful etc and then hello! here’s platform C (Xbox) F**K Platform B, C is where it’s at baby, look at this exclusive (Malice) only possible thanks to power of Platform C (and hey Jez, see games also now due on platform B…).

Don’t think any of us really want to be quite so cynical, but when you’ve seen same cycles repeated ad infi….it just wears really thin.

    • If I’m feeling up to it, I may have a 2nd attempt at reading that after I have my lunch ;)

      • I’m still having breakfast….

        :-)

Basically message i hide in wall O’text:

This generation:same pattern as every generation before it, Super Console not quite as super as led to belive, expectation greatly outstrips reality, we all end up buying 1 or more platform as that’s where games are, moan and say next generation cannot come quick enough etc….

  4. As for media jumping on resolution and frame rate of PS3/360 games:

Hmmmn, only had the 1 cup of coffee so far, but all i can recal is:

Halo 3 running at sub HD and with jaggies, yes bit of an outcry, Bungie ‘defended’ by saying it was done to allow for scope of battles/wider open areas etc, more ‘fuss’ over ODST in terms of aging game engine (and price), but Halo 3 was running on moddified Xbox Halo 2 engine was it not?.

Project Gotham Racing (3 was it?) not true HD either hardware upscaled, but only seem to recal Edge being quite anal enough to harp on about it at times.

Wipeout HD:Supposed to be impossible to do on 360, as uses PS3 specific hardware to resize textures and resolutions on the fly, to maintain frame rate, so it’s not 1080P in 100% of the game or something.

Lair PS3 1080P, but utter bollox to play, developer responded by saying reviewers did’nt know how to play game properly, so issued a guide!

Alan wake, only 540P but stunning use of light and dark, few idiots on forums posting they were’nt going to buy game because it was’nt HD

Killzone 2:OMG it feels different to COD, your player has a sense of wieght, take it away, take it away it burns! (so developer patched it, people still flocked to COD instead).

More of a fuss was rightly made about just how poor likes of Fallout 3, Orange Box, Bayonetta were on PS3-I bought PS3 Fallout 3 and had to physically stop playing it, for fear of it damaging my console, it froze the hardware so often, Orange Box was given to in-house E.A coders and was a botch job, Gabe at this point loathed PS3, years later could’nt praise it enough, Bayonetta again here Sega coders handled conversion….but these were at time when lead development platform was 360, not PS3, soon as that was reversed, PS3 situation drastically improved, plus PS3 used it’s Ram differently to 360, so things like Oblivion, Skyrim, Fallout 3 etc always going to suffer.

Lot of moist trouser departments from handheld areas as well in terms of 3DS:people not quite grasping fact that the grunt of the machine was needed for the 3D, plus trade off between power, heat generated and batt.life.Vita:with it’s lush screen:OMG games are’nt running at screens native resolution-kill it with fire etc etc

Been a bloody strange generation as was, with reviewers proclaiming:There’d never been a decent Batman game prior to Batman A.A (Cobblers!) and that Gears Of War cover/blindfire system was a revolution, when in fact it was done generation before on PS2 titles:Kill.Switch and Rogue Trooper.
