Is the PS3’s Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum not enough of a rating system for you? Want more out of your trophies, and want to aim for something unique? Well, Sony have you sorted with their new system for the PS4.
You see, trophies on the PS4 now have a “rarity metric” according to Engadget, which shows how many people worldwide have earned each individual trophy.
It will be really great to see what the rarest trophies are, and which are the easiest or most widespread, while also offering an idea of how many people have played or completed each game.
In other news from the same article, USB powering now works while the console is switched off, the PS Store is much more organised and even features a PS3 to PS4 section, the Play as Guest feature deletes all of your info from your friends PS4 after you quit, you can have multiple party chat rooms at the same time and, finally, double tapping the PS button on the DualShock 4 will take you back to your last used app.
These are all awesome little features, and I can’t wait to see what other cool things the PS4 can do that we don’t know about yet.

That is brilliant. I am constantly on psnprofile checking how rare some of my trophies are. Most of course are from both wipeout HD and wipeout 2048.
IT will be interesting how they do it. Will a trophy that has been achieved by 10,000 people be less rare than a trophy achieved by 1000 people when their are 100,000 owners of the first game bot only 10,000 owners of the second game?
Blair Inglis
That’s a great point. Perhaps it’ll be displayed as a percentage of owners of the game?

Yer I think so, I mean that is how its done on psnprofile. Percentage of how many people own it. Either way Im glad they are introducing this :) I love getting ultra rare trophies! very satisfying when you achieve them.

All trophies on their leaderboard has point values based on rarity!
stueeeee
I’d hope they do it like psnprofiles, otherwise they’ll have to change how they do it. I have so many wipeout trophies that are rare!
I wonder if they’ll b any extra rewards for getting a rare trophy? I mean, if I get a bronze that’s really rare, it’s still just a bronze. Maybe they’ll be different value than a normal bronze trophy…..hmmmm,..then it wouldn’t be a bronze. I’m confusing myself!

The rarity of trophies is a good idea while the number of folk who have each tropy will be more use to game developers etc.
As well as knowing how many games they’ve sold they can find out how much of a game has been played, or not.

Don’t steam already do something like this

All my platinums are rare – because i don’t have any :)
Youles
That’s cool, especially as I like to get DLC for a lot of games which means they are often rare.

I’m most psyched about the social features (as well as remote play) of PS4. If it’s all as varied and functional as advertised, I think I’ll be spending as much time watching shared content, checking out trophies and comments as actually playing games.

Watching shared content will be one of the things that will be taking up some of my time when i get the PS4.Also recording and sharing those glitches and epic fails like getting chased by the cops driving an invisible car in gta v,the 2 cops sat in mid air side by side with their siren blazing.True story.

These guys have built algorithms for rare trophies already and have had leaderboards for it for years now:

Hopefully it works the same as psnprofiles. Its interesting to see how common some of your trophies are.
