PS1 game trophy support coming to PlayStation Plus

ps1 game trophy support

Sony has confirmed that PS1 game trophy support will be available when PlayStation Plus relaunches in June.

So far, the only game announced to support this feature is PS1 spy action shooter, Syphon Filter. The inclusion of PlayStation trophies was revealed by the game’s original developer, Bend Studio, whose more recent work includes Uncharted: Golden Abyss and Days Gone.

And yes, there’s a platinum trophy also up for grabs.

It’s unknown whether more PS1 classics will get this same updated treatment. While some PlayStation fans can take them or leave them, there are enough trophy hunters around the globe who will probably leap at playing Syphon Filter without having any previous interest now there’s some virtual silverware to obtain.

PS1 game trophy support would be a smart inclusion to help add value to PlayStation Plus memberships when the service relaunches. Of course, this will require developers to dig back into the PlayStation’s software archive to add this feature.

So far, here are the PS1 games confirmed for PlayStation Plus. These can accessed by those paying for the Extra and Premium tiers.

PlayStation Studios

  • Ape Escape | Japan Studio, Original Playstation
  • Hot Shots Golf | Japan Studio, Original Playstation
  • I.Q. Intelligent Qube | Japan Studio, Original PlayStation
  • Jumping Flash! | Japan Studio, Original PlayStation
  • Syphon Filter | Bend Studio, Original PlayStation
  • Super Stardust Portable | Housemarque, PSP

Third Party Partners

  • Mr. Driller | Bandai Namco Entertainment Inc., Original PlayStation
  • Tekken 2 | Bandai Namco Entertainment Inc., Original PlayStation
  • Worms World Party | Team 17, Original PlayStation
  • Worms Armageddon | Team17, Original PlayStation

There are plenty more games wrapped up in those higher subscription tiers, Sony promising over 700 titles.

We previously knew that Extra and Premium tiers would include Death Stranding, God of War, Spider-Man, Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Mortal Kombat 11 and Returnal, but Sony has beefed that offering up significantly with more recent games and some bigger hitters. This includes the likes of Demon’s Souls, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut, NBA 2K22, with many of the third party games coming from the new Ubisoft+ Classics (marked with ***), a special subscription offering being bundled in with PS Plus similar to how EA Play is a part of Xbox Game Pass.

We’ll likely see more updates regarding the service and its final day-one games list soon.

  1. Interesting news! I don’t think I’ll be playing Siphon Filter again but if there’s trophies coming to Worms Armageddon then its safe to say I’ll be rinsing the concrete donkey out of them.
