Various PSN users across the internet are reporting that their sign-in details aren’t working correctly, leaving them locked out of PSN due to incorrect details.
This has naturally worried some people, assuming that their details may have been compromised, with one poster on the PSN Support forums saying that their reaction was that they’ve “been hacked and someone’s changed the details” but realised they hadn’t received a standard changed details email.
Twitter users are also reporting that they’re unable to sign in with their details, and this has been continuing on for quite a while it seems. Thankfully, a solution appears to have been found.
On the same thread in the support forum, an online support co-ordinator has revealed that it’s a simple case of clicking “forgotten password” and resetting through there, as a “small number” of users have had their password reset, though in our small circle at least the issue seems to be quite widespread. You can also reset your password through the Sony Entertainment Network website.
It doesn’t appear as though there’s anything to worry about, as it was done as “purely as precautionary measure and there was no specific evidence that any accounts had be compromised” although it appears the passwords were reset due to some “irregular activity” on the network.

To be fair there are a number of reasons why they might do this (server moves, hardware failures that might involve getting a third party in, incompatible software upgrades, or maybe someone had their account details pinched when via a key logger or something), although a little bit more on the explanation might be good…

Happened to me as well, even though I had changed my password a month ago. I was so happy with my previous password :/

Don’t know how safe it is but I actually kept my old password when this happened to me. Hmm, maybe I should change it.

I was signed in last night. Tried to play GT5 but kept getting server errors within the game. Eventually restarted my system and I couldn’t sign in due to incorrect password. Changed it and I was able to play online again.

i hope i’m not tempting fate by saying that.
i don’t keep any card details on that account for reasons such as this.
a little inconvenient when i want to buy something on the store, but i feel safer that way.

Haven’t tried my PS3 yet but I can still sign into the PSN app on my phone. I wonder whether the irregular activity could be to do with a large amount of people suddenly signing into the phone apps or Vita’s in preparation for the PS4.

Unable to sign in today and the email address is one that is no longer used and cant access. had to send passport details as proof so they can switch my email over and can take 2 days to transfer over. Will be pretty pissed if i cant recover my account so close to launch!

I hope you can, although I really think you should be able to because I’ve seen a few other people having the same problem so it would be wise for Sony to help out.
