MGS5: Ground Zeroes Custom Soundtracks Rather Useless On PS4

Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes creator, Hideo Kojima, has tweeted a number of pictures including one of Snake’s retro-tastic Walkman that will allow players to import custom music.

“Today, I installed “JAWS”‘s OST into Snake’s Walkman and playing THAT song while check-playing “GZ”. “JAWS PLAY”. lol” he tweeted.

Lols indeed.

Slightly less lols is the fact that the PS4 does not support the MP3 format or read compact discs, although Sony has said “People in Japan – the system guys – are discussing when we can put these features in.”

Of course you could subscribe to Sony’s Music Unlimited service and pay again for all the music you already own but can’t play on your super-duper new console.

Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes will launch in Europe on March 20th, Sony have yet to give a date as to when the PlayStation 4 will have MP3 and CD support patched in.

  1. I would be surprised if MP3 playback and DLNA streaming wasn’t available by March.

On a more pressing note; I must have that Predator head.

    • I just wanted to write the same thing. That mask is awesome.

    • Damn, it’s Japan only! I’ll add it to my list of tat to source and stuff into an empty suitcase in April :p

      • I’ve found it on Amazon UK actually. The JP version contained the films and the 3D BD. Whereas the UK version only has the first film, which is all anyone needs.

        Sorry for the segue!

  2. “People in Japan – the system guys – are discussing when we can put these features in.” I hope it’s not going to take much longer than another month or two to implement.

    • I’d put money on media features showing up in the next financial year, maybe the summer. On the plus side, since Kojima must be playing that on PS3 or 360, the menu looks impressively pretty!

  3. I’m really missing having my music on my playstation. Fifa 14 soundtrack is horrible, in fifa 13 on ps3 I had my own custom soundtrack

  4. there’s an “import music” option in the fourth pic, maybe the game will have a built in CD ripper.

anyway, it’s nice to see a game that integrates the custom soundtrack support, instead of just relying on the system player.

the GTA game on the original xbox did that, letting you play your own albums or playlists like in car stations.
why have no GTA games since then done that?

    • CD ripping? Nah, it’ll probably only record from another tape deck on line-in or the charts on Radio 1.

  5. So much for playing the MGS soundtracks in MGS GZ. :( But hopefully, Sony can figure out a way to include custom soundtracks on the PS4. Do hope Kojima will upload all of the MGS songs over time via an in game downloader. something like MGS4’s thing.
