Titanfall Only Supports 6 Vs 6 Multiplayer

Respawn Entertainment’s Vince Zampella has answered a fan’s question on Twitter and has revealed the game will only support six players per team, with the rest of the battlefield populated with AI soldiers.

He also revealed that every human player can have a Titan and that they have done “a lot if testing” before deciding to have six players on each side.

Whilst there has been some positive comments on Twitter praising Respawn’s openess, some gamers are less than impressed with the small teams on a next-gen console.

The inclusion of AI bots also raises an interesting question – if the game is relying on them to create and exciting battle, why is there no offline mode?

Titanfall is scheduled for release on 14th March for Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC.

  1. I spent a lot of time with KZ:SF’s offline botzone over Christmas (my folks home has barbaric internet speeds) and I have to say I really enjoyed it. The AI isn’t terrible – bots would often retreat if outnumbered and attempt to flank- and, most importantly, weren’t too obnoxious. They don’t turn on a dime, there were very few ‘length of the map’ head shots and you can definitely sneak up on them. The only slightly cheesy thing was their insane accuracy with cooked grenades, which had a habit of dropping right at your feet mere milliseconds before they explode.

If TitanFall has AI anywhere near this, then I think it has the potential to add to the experience considerably, especially if it makes for a fuller, more exciting battlefield. I’d think of them as grunts and the six players as commanders, which could be an interesting feature in itself.

  2. What I’d like to ask them is why there isn’t an option of the number of players up to 64 perhaps. Some people will like 6v6, some will like 32v32 and anything in between. If the reason for the limit isn’t technical then why not give the users the option to chose the games size before playing.

    • I would’ve thought it’s because the game has been designed with a specific number in mind (both environmentally and from enemy perspective). 6v6 is obviously what suits them. It won’t be a hardware limitation as we’ve seen more on the Xbox One already.

  3. It’s amazing what they can do with the power of the cloud.

  4. teh power of teh cloudz.

    ^_^

  5. 12 players sounds perfectly fine to me, what I don’t like the sound of is AI also being in the game. The game is going to be far more similar to the CQB style of COD than BF’s large open maps.

  6. so wish this was coming to PS4 however might just pick up a copy for the old 360. How successful 6v6 is will depend on how good/bad the AI players are, it could get very frustrating if AI players can sense you coming from any direction, 1 shot kill etc…

Additionally If they are worried about one side dominating another with mechs then they should do somthing along the line of what Black Ops does with kill streaks and make them unavailable when so many have been put out on the map.

  7. I appreciate Respawn for not keeping the details arcane. And the gameplay seems fluid and dynamic. but this 6vs6 thing is unforgivable.
