Ashley Johnson Talks About The Last Of Us Left Behind DLC

The Last Of Us actress Ashley Johnson, who took on the role of Ellie, has spoken to the PlayStation Blog about Left Behind, which is the prequel DLC for our Game Of The Year. It is focused on Ellie and her best friend, Riley, who you may have heard mentioned during the main game.

The Ellie of Left Behind is apparently quite different to the one we’re used to with Ashley saying that she is more playful, and seems to be more like a typical teenage girl in the company of her best friend Riley, voiced by Yanni King. Both are students at a military boarding school too, quite the opposite to being with the Fireflies.

It appears to be based in a shopping mall, at least that’s the impression given by Ashley when speaking about how the DLC feels different in tone to the main story campaign.

“It’s definitely different. It’s a little bit more ‘fun’, because you have two teenage girls going through a mall. It’s kind of like a post-pandemic version of two teenage girls hanging out. Definitely not a normal hangout! It’s very different – a little more playful.”

It will also likely have a view of how Ellie got her bite as she was in the company of Riley when it happened.

  1. Good name for the dlc, it’s come too late, I left game and my ps3 behind a long time ago. This needed to come out a month after the main game, not this long after.
Surely most people have now traded in their copy of the game, if not traded in their ps3!

    • If it came out just after the release, people would have said that it was purposfully held back for DLC rather than part of the main game, and then got upset at Naughty Dog. I’m glad they actually made this afterward, its given me something to be playing on the PS3 after I get through Dark Souls! :)

    • I agree, tonycawley. I would have bought this on day one if it came out a month after the game but now I’ve moved on to the PS4. I understand the dev team needed a well deserved vacation and worked really hard on this to make it as polished as the game was but I’m still not going back. If this was about what happens after the game I might’ve reconsidered, but I’m not too interested in Ellie’s backstory.

  2. Such a shame they left it so late. It was my favourite game last year. Sadly, like many others on TSA, i have moved on to the PS4. Hopefully it will come out on Playstation Now?

  3. I’m loving all this great dlc to complement my backlog on ps3. I’ll move onto PS4 this year but the quality of some games last gen is too good to miss imo.

    • I concur, I still have pre-paid DLC to come for The Last of Us, GTA 5 and BioShock Infinite DLC, as well and DLC episodes of The Walking Dead Season 2 and The Wolf Amoung Us…it justifies me keeping my PS3 and it’s nice to fire up the old girl when my PS4 isn’t being used. And these games are probably better than any of the PS4 games I have…sadly the launch titles only really seem to have better visuals, but the likes of CoD and Killzone lack any soul, or story.

  4. Can’t wait for this. Bought a PS4 in November but there are still too many great PS3 games I haven’t played yet so I’m keeping both consoles for the time being.

  5. Trade in TLoU? You got to be kidding right? I trade most games I Platinum or have no intention playing again but there is no way I would trade this in…it has replayability as a classic…like any of the Uncharted games…it deserves to stay in everyones collection!

    • Haha, I agree mate. It’s probably my favourite PS3 game. And the multiplayer isn’t bad either.
