A few weeks ago, I teased that we were going to be trying something a little bit different with TSA’s trophy leaderboards this year, thanks to a inferior race‘s efforts, week in and week out. Today, it’s time to announce that we’ll be running a board that covers only those trophies won in 2014, to find the most ardent trophy collectors of the year.
We’ll be kicking things off next week, and to take part, all you need to do to take part is to be on the full TSA trophy leaderboard itself – just ask to be included on the forums if you’re not already – and update your trophy card on eu.playstation.com. For many of you, there’s nothing you need to do, but AIR does need at least one update in 2014 for each person to be elligible. Latecomers will just start from their first card update.
If you have any questions or want to discuss this, you can take to the forum thread here, or just pop your thoughts in the comments below.
Heading on to some of the most discussed topics of the week, both Microsoft and EA were caught out, as their policies of paying those who promoted their wares via Machinima and/or Youtube came to light.
Naturally, quite a few people found the practice out of place and quite shady, but BullyBeef 47 (who has changed his name again, from BullyBurton) wondered,”Who takes any reviews on YouTube seriously anyway?”
“Everything I watch on there, I take with a pinch of salt/expect false information,” he explained. “To me YouTube is another social site where you should be free to say what you want, but the viewers should also bear in mind any negative/positive statements could and most likely are endorsed.”
It certainly feels like more people will be sceptical of the circumstances under which Youtube videos are created, but whether or not this spurs on a change of policy from the major companies involved, we’ll have to wait and see.
The bad news kept rolling for Microsoft, when Crystal Dynamics revealed that the PS4 version of Tomb Raider Definitive Edition would be running at 60Hz, while the XBO release is rumoured to be running at 30Hz.
While both will be a sizeable and notable step up in graphical quality, the frame rate is a major sticking point in public perception, even if it’s one that’s very much depend on the player. As others discussed the merits of resolution and frame rate, Bunimomike opined:
It’s fascinating, funny and ugly to see this news unfold across the internet. Okay, not the news itself but the comment sections filling up with the most ludicrous posts. However, what’s very interesting is to see wave after wave of folk finally realising that there’s little they can argue against when game after game appears to prove that the Xbox One has an uphill battle with regards to multi-platform graphics.
Finally, it wasn’t all smooth sailing for Sony either, with corrupted saves springing up for some games, and the quite startling results to our poll regarding DualShock 4 flaws.
Almost 40% of voters reported that there was noticeable wear and tear of some sort, with practically 10% seeing the ridges splitting open.
DJ Judas thinks that, “My two controllers show a clear difference in quality. With the default bundled controller feeling weaker at its joints, and rubber starting to peel when compared to the second bundled controller which appears to be from a different batch and is much nicer to use in comparison.”
Certainly a very interesting thought, that perhaps the construction and materials have already been altered. If that’s the case, then this issue could quickly disappear. However, SleazyC69‘s thoughts suggest that it’s down to the ridged design itself:
I bought the large bundle and both of my controllers are peeling. I attribute this to pushing on the side of the stick to walk forward out of habit due to playing for years with convex controllers.
On a concave controller the lateral pressure is absorbed by the thin pronounced ring as opposed to the whole dome on a convex thumbstick, therefore you are applying as much force to something smaller and weaker hence the ring starts to tear away from the main bulk of rubber. My DS3 and Sixaxis sticks are still pretty much good as new, even though the writing has worn off the black plastic.
Thankfully, plenty of people have reported that it was nice and easy to get replacements, so if your controller has split apart, you should certainly try and do the same by contacting the retailer or Sony.
The trophy collecting hasn’t been as hectic as it has been for the last few weeks, so we’ll start off this week by trying to help a few people inch closer to some achievements.
Avenger is looking for partners to play Far Cry 3 co-op and get that platinum trophy, while he and several others are eager to get through the multiplayer of Wipeout 2048, grinding to that platinum trophy too. For both, take a look in the Trophy Banter forum thread, and the Meets forum in general.
However, a few people have been collecting trophies this week, and Cron_13 finished off the Resogun platinum, spurred on by the first Plus Point Challenges competition which closes later today.
He also completed the story of Assassin’s Creed 4, while Element666 finished off the single player in its entirety. Lyts1985 then went one further and took the platinum, just a few hours ahead of Ace-Michie. He holds a precarious record right now, dependent on Crazy_Del confirming the platform of his own record claim from a few weeks back.
Blackredyellow is entirely more successful on that front, taking the Thor: God of Thunder record with no challengers.
We’re nearly done, but you can head over to page two for the return of the Fastest Platinum boards. To finish off this page, we have the usual submission form for photos and accomplishments.
If people want to keep sending photos in, I’ll be happy to post them, but gaming places is no longer a regular feature. If you fancy it, just use the submission form below, get in touch with me on Twitter at @teflon, or just send me an email out of the blue to [email protected].

Cheers for the mention :-) only thing, Ace still holds the record for ACIV on the fastest plat boards… Lol.

I just saw this and posted in the Trophy forums.
It was PS4 format for the Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag

Warning for everyone regarding the trophy leaderboard. If you’ve got a ps4 and have your trophy information set so it can only be seen by friends or friends of friends, then your trophy card will show that you have 0 trophies.
You have to have your trophy information set so it is viewable by everyone.

Out of curiosity, how feasible is it to set up a “Quickest Platinum” leaderboard? As opposed to being the first person to earn the plat, the person who earns it the quickest – ie, time taken from the first trophy earned to the platinum…
I think that’d be an interesting twist as not everyone can afford to buy a game on release day and hammer it whereas someone might buy it a year after release and earn the plat within a week.
What do people think?
a inferior race
We had a look at this before. There were two problems.
1. Most people couldn’t be bothered going through their records again which took a while when it was first setup.
2. Calculating the time was an additional step for people and there are advantages yo completing a game later on as there are guides available.
Lyts1985
The psnprofiles website tells you how long it took so that’s one less pain in the backside, but yeah, the guides bit makes sense… But then, does it matter if it’s kept seperate from the (more prestigious) fastest plats list? Plus, some plats are far more reliant on skill than others so guides are of bugger all use.
I dunno, just an idea :-)

@Avenger – I’ll help you get the co-op trophies, message me on Virtual_Rehality when you want to do them.

Lyts I agree with you 100% fella but if it’s more work for AIR to do which isn’t fare on him.

Damn it, typed IF.
