A few days ago Activision confirmed that Slegehammer Games was entering the Call Of Duty development cycle full time, with the announcement that the studio would be developing this year’s entry to the franchise. Now, in what seems to be quite the obvious announcement. Activision’s Eric Hirshberg has confirmed that the PS4 and Xbox One versions are the primary consoles the game will be designed for.
“Sledgehammer is approaching this as a next-gen-first development. Obviously in the console-transition year, anyone who developed a cross-generational game last year had to deal with the fact that the technology of the next-gen platforms was still coming into focus and changing quite a bit during the development process…. Now that we have the next-gen hardware out in the marketplace and solid, that is our primary development.”
Of course the new Call Of Duty will still be coming to PS3 and Xbox 360 because of the major install base already present there, and it would be silly to ignore an audience of millions. There are no details of when Sledgehammer’s entry will be set, what the story is about, or if an animal will be the star of the show.

So more than just an up-rezzed port? more great news. Actually getting me interested for a CoD game!

I’ll eat my hat if its not!

Was expecting them to go with the aye-aye. Even the poor graphics of CoD’s last gen engine couldn’t make it look any worse!

To me, this is bad news. I was looking forward to a Treyarch COD this year with some next gen zombies. Unless Sledgehammer take on the zombies mode, I’ll be incredibly disappointed!

It’ll be interesting to see what Sledgehammer can bring to the party. COD desperately needs a new engine though…

The day this game stops being produced will be the day I run naked down the street with joy. Jesus, I hope its soon so no one gets to see my massive saggy balls at the age of 70.
