Titanfall Currently Runs At 792p, “Potentially” Could Hit 900p Before Release

Xbox One’s flagship title is looking a little less flagshippy today as it has been revealed that Titanfall currently runs at just 792p, a couple of pixels above the standard output of the Xbox 360.

The Titanfall blog spoke to Abbie Heppe, Community Manager at Respawn, and she explained the Titanfall Beta runs at native 792p resolution.

Digital Foundry have also confirmed the resolution which they are “less than impressed” with.

Based on some extended edge-counts from the game’s stark tutorial section, our best guess right now is that 1408×792 is pretty close to Respawn’s chosen rendering resolution. The overall effect is pretty similar to 720p overall though, and the implementation of an overly sharp filter across the entire image suggests that the Xbox One hardware scaler is used to blow up the image to 1080p

The good news is the game could potentially hit 900p before release, although this depends entirely on the final build of the game.

Our very own Teflon has been playing the Titanfall beta and calculated the game was running at  around 810p, you can read his thoughts here.

  1. So this gen is all about the highest p at the end of a number nice

  2. You have to wonder whats gonna happen to Xbone games when they really have to push the PS4 version?

  3. The weather’s too good, we need more clouds!
No in all seriousness this is fine at 60FPS if it’s close to PC on high settings, but it seems like that eSRAM strikes again.

  4. I knew as soon as I saw the title of the story it would be another tuffclub negative story on Xbox one. Why are so many people obsessed about frame rates and resolutions this generation? Just play the games and enjoy them rather than bitch and moan if something runs at 30fps.

    • Hey, I just report the news I don’t make it.

      • Report something positive about ms them for once then. Just posting negative stuff about ms all the time just makes you look like a unprofessional fanboy rather than a unbiased journalist

      • Next time there’s some positive MS news, we’ll get Tuffcub to post it for you.

In the meantime, you can always read the Titanfall preview, where I say that this XBO exclusive is pretty fab. :)

      • Its not just you TC, unfortunately there are a few others who have been coming across pretty unprofessional in some of their comments related to various non-sony related articles.

Prime example was the complete shambles of a story related to the party chat information the other day – no effort to rectify the “news” story which was incorrect.

Passion about something is one thing but unbalanced half truths and making statments to try and get a rise out of people is another.

I’ve found many of the articles on here brilliant; but recently I’ve got more and more fed up with some of them. Maybe I’m in a minority – and maybe you don’t care about alienating some members of your community – its a PlayStation focused site at the end of the day so I get it; but I’ll be getting my gaming news from else where going forward.

        Peace out chaps and cheers.

      • I can’t see what the problem is here. Tuffcub has reported news – fact. As a flagship title on a next get console I don’t think it would be wrong to expect 1080p. There was a lot bitching about the PS4 Driveclub title when it wasn’t clear or confirmed at what resolution or frames per sec etc that will run at so it’s not all 1 sided.
Would it help if TC sprinkled hundreds and thousands over the story and covered it in freshly spun candy floss?

      • if facts hurt that is more your problem.

      • @Cron – Sorry it took so long, but I’ve now fixed that article. It was simply a case of misinterpreting what Major Nelson had posted on his blog.

As for bias, it’s not our intention to get things like that wrong or mislead, let along try to get a rise out of people. Quickly comparing to other sites, I don’t think we’ve missed any major XBO news that’s been reported elsewhere, whatever the content.

    • Looks like someone’s favourite console isn’t doing well and the classic blame the media crops up. Obviously last week’s reporting of The order being 30fps doesn’t count. Some bad decisions made by ms with the X1 and most criticism is certainly justified.

In fact, this article isn’t even critical, TC’s just relayed the FACTS and let the readers make up their own mind.

    • Cry me a river. This is the result of believing the sugar coated Microsoft PR which led you to buy the system. My genuine advice, would be to drop the emotional attachment, which is what it looks like, and try to reach acceptance with your purchase. It will get easier for X1 owners just you’re on the wrong side of the PR war is all.

    • I shall be getting my news elsewhere until I see a lower-case “p” on the end of 792P, 900P, 1080P, etc.

I understand Tuffcub being a fanboy of the uPPer-case version but we must look to maturity in the industry and to avoid lower-case prejudice wherever possible.

  5. 792p? What a bizarre resolution. Why not just run it at 720p and enjoy the better performance instead of pushing it for a few extra pixels that probably won’t make any difference.

    • They’ve already said that a steady 60 fps is most important to them, but they also need to try and deliver a product that shows the Xbox One in the best light possible. Rumour has it that the alpha was running at 720p, but as they push their optimisations through it looks like they’re inching that resolution higher and higher.

  6. “The good news is the game could potentially hit 900P”

    This isn’t good news…

  7. Ok so it has 12 players in game and this game doesn’t run at 1080p? That is fucking shit in all honesty.

    • That’s my TSA LOL moment for today, thanks Bilbo.

  8. Its not even as if the game is that graphically intensive. 1080p and 60fps should be easy for a next gen machine when the game is running off an engine as old as this.

  9. Further proof that the Kinect has to go. So much of the X1’s spec is wasted on that bloody camera, which is causing the quality of games to suffer. Don’t get me wrong, in a game like this 60fps is far more important than visuals, but it doesn’t seem unreasonable to ask for both given the console is 3 months old and boasts a £500 price tag.

  10. Dat Xboxone. Such potential.
