Dishonored II Image – Honourable Leak Or Dishonourable Fake?

Dishonored2

Last night the above image allegedly showing the logo for Dishonored II appeared on the internet, with the information it will be fully revealed at E3, and that it will focus on Tyvia, an island in the Dishonored universe. However for all it’s official looking font and logo I just can’t help think this could be a very good fake sent out to make the headlines. Don’t get me wrong I loved Dishonored and want to see a sequel, so I hope I’m wrong.

First the original source is an anonymous email with the message “This may be of interest to you. Can’t tell my sources. Your choice,” from an AOL german email address.

That’s the first thing that gets my own alarm bells going as a news person. I need sources to verify information and this has none. The fact the email is from a german account may or may not matter though as Zenimax, owners of Bethesda, do have an office in Frankfurt, Germany. Tying those two together could mean that this image came from that office, then again it may not have originated there.

If this is an internal leak has it been purposefully done by Bethesda who later denied to comment (via JustPushStart), or has someone risked their job leaking this logo. If it isn’t internal and is instead one from a secret press event then where was it, and who was there? On occasion publishers will invite members of the gaming press to see in development projects, but then but then under embargo. If this is a press member breaking embargo then that could have consequences too.

However it could be a very well done fake. Anyone with basic image manipulation skills would be able to create a Dishonored II logo and come up with a tagline based off the game’s lore. Put a hashtag in front of it and you’ve got something that will definitely trend on Twitter. And it wouldn’t be hard to add both Bethesda’s and Arkane’s logos to the slide either. If this was part of a presentation then surely there would have been at least concept art slides which could have leaked too.

It’s hard to judge this because in this industry you can get just as many real leaks as fake leaks, so what do you think? Honourable or dishonourable?

  1. Looks legit. Coming towards the end of the financial year too so possibly shown to stakeholders? – otherwise the E3 message makes no sense?

  2. A sequel is surely a given with it selling decent amounts, though given the history of hoaxes recently this screen could well be fake.

  3. Looks real to me! I hope so, as I really enjoyed the first game – apart from some of the DLC challenges.

  4. I hope this is real – but i expect there to be a sequel anyway at some point. Bring it on!

  5. I’m no expert in design, but cant help feel that the “II” at the end looks a little out of place. Love the original and the world it put together so really hope this is true, but I’m not getting my hopes up yet.

  6. Fake. For a start there’s a PS4 lightbar in the reflection of the TV, they would be demoing on PC this early.

    • Or it could be a PS4 beside a PC! :)

  7. I reckon this image is fake, although I full expect to hear something about Dishonoured 2 at E3, if not before.
