It appears it was not just my copy of Dead Nation that had problems, many users are now reporting the game is crashing and throwing up the CE-34878-0 error screen.
“Have it none stop with dead nation games virtually unplayable,” explained one poster of the official PlayStation forums. “Downloaded Dead Nation not long ago and have already had 5 CE-34878-0 error messages. While I have not lost anything significant, as I have only got 10 minutes into the game, this really needs sorting,” added another and posted this image.

The fault seems to be something to do with the online servers, other games such as NBA 2K 14 and Battlefield 4 have also suffered from the problem. However, not all users are reporting the error, some say the game works without fault.
“‘Regrettably there is no further update on this issue. The problem is still under investigation as a high priority and we are working to resolve this ASAP!” is the response from Sony. “If you are experiencing this ce-34878-0 error code, please close the application and then install the latest system software and game patch,” the add, which is less helpful.
Update: A patch is being worked on, huzzah!
A small number of players is experiencing some issues with online connectivity and save files. Team is working on a solution as we tweet

I was getting this with Resogun, but the ‘initialize PS4’ thing fixed it. Haven’t noticed any issue with Dead Nation, other than my killing R1 on one controller (need to lay off the rifle maybe).

I played the first two missions last night and it was taking ages to connect to the servers after each mission but thankfully no errors.

BT Homehub 5 (latest);
Use a browser to goto: https://bthomehub.home
Go to advanced settings
Enter admin password. By default this can be found as a little plastic card behind the hub
Click “continue to advanced settings
Click “Home Network”
PS4 should be identified as “PS4” then loads of MaC address jargon, click on it
Scroll down and tick the button “use static IP address”
Go to firewall settings at the top
Click on DMZ
Click “enable dmz” the use the drop down box to select your PS4
Important; click “apply changes” until “Changes Saved/Applied” is on screen
Turn PS4 off
Turn Homehub off
Make a cup of tea/coffee
Think about England beating Denmark by only one goal
Boot homehub back up and wait for blue light
Boot PS4 back up
Wait for the next glitch to crop up and remember Snes & Megadrive days

Oh – and use a wired connection if possible, turn off SmartWireless too. It works great when browsing, but when gaming you really dont want the hub channel hopping because her iPad is surfing the same waves

So you recommend adding the system to DMZ as well then? Has this 100% fixed issues for you?

I have the Homehub 4 at the moment and totally agree, that SmartWireless is a pain in the arse when flitting between channels.
I set up a combined semi-wireless connection with some of those TP-Link socket adapters that use an ethernet cable connection signalled through the domestic electrical circuit to anywhere in the house that uses that same ring circuit. It creates an internet outlet to every power socket on that particular ring. Works a treat, far better than wireless, with no cables to route through the house, just at the point of contact.

Ooo, interesting. I’ve just received up HomeHub 5 today in the post. Will wire it up later. Haven’t got a PS4 yet but will save this post as it might prove useful in the near future. Cheers, fella.

DMZ and Static IP has given me an open NAT and far less errors, but there is still the odd crash across all games that may or may not be due to networking. It may also not solve the error mentioned and i may just be lucky, but it is nice to know my PS4 & Xbox One are configured correctly on the Homehub.

I’ve had twp PS3s and have always had trouble with downloads failing. Just over half of all downloads spit up an error message when the install gets to 14%. I have never found out the reason for this or been able to fix it.
TSBonyman
I used to have that 14% issue with some of the larger downloads. There was a solution, not sure of the exact details now but I changed some of ps3 network connection settings and that fixed it. Sorry i don’t have a link but you should find it by searching the official PS forums.

PS3 or PS4 in the DMZ and set the PS3/PS4’s DNS servers to OpenDNS DNS (208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220)servers…you can set this on your router too…doing that has solved many issues and now I rarely get any network issues…

No issues for me and I’m halfway through the campaign… Still time though!

I’ve not had this error bit a while ago I tried to play online co-op campaign with my nephew (both on same collection) and every time we got into a match, within 5 mins we kept getting network error. We tried about 6 times and got the error every time.

Sounds like the port was rushed to get something on plus for ps4.
double-o-dave
Port should never be rushed, it should be sipped gently to appreciate its complex flavour.
